I’m a huge Beatles fan. I was wondering if it’s a sin to listen to songs with impure lyrics in them. In the Beatles’ case it’s pretty mild, for the most part. Just some songs hinting at sex.

Answers greatly appreciated!

I have my issues with some of the ideals their songs pushed. And perhaps I’m misinterpreting but songs like “Imagine” were, to me, pushing the idea that religion is evil and without it the world would be peaceful.

Compared to rap and hip-hop, the Beatles’ lyrics must seem like Sunday School songs.

Father Corapi has addressed this in one of his teachings. He was associated with many of the music industry stars before his priestly vocation and he speaks of attending recording sessions where he witnessed priests of satan performing “blessings/curses” upon musicians and their music at their recordings. He further advises that as a blessing from a Catholic priest brings God’s favor on all who use the object blessed, so does the curse of a satanic priest rest upon those who use that object.

He clearly stated do not intentionally purchase or listen to media that is in direct opposition to the teaching of God. You may be literally inviting the devil into your presence.

Thanks for the responses!

First off, I’d like to say that the song “Imagine” was a John Lennon song and had no affiliation with the Beatles. John Lennon wrote it after the break-up.

Would songs hinting at sex, impurity, etc. count towards this?

🙂 I didn’t know that. I’ve never been a big Beatles fan.
