Welcome back Aydan, 🙂

Sorry to tell you, but Muhammed didn’t like disabled people, indeed Muhammed wanted strong men to fight not disabled people, that is why there are many verses in Quran about the reward of Jihad, and that is why there is no direct instructions for disabled people prayer, the current workaround is found by Muslim clerics not Muhammed.

You might ask what is my proof for that, its the Quran itself, in (Quran 80:1-2) Muhammed frowned and turned away from a disabled blind man.
And it seems after doing that he got criticized by his own tribe because that blind man was the cousin of his first wife “Kadija”, so he revealed that verse to calm his tribe.

Alkurtubi commentary:

why thank you Siam 🙂 I’ve been around I just spend most of my time in the prayer intentions section you ought to come visit sometime.🙂
Wow that verse from the Koran says it all.

… Muhammed didn’t like disabled people,
Please , don’t spread lies. Prophet (p) was talking to several tribal leaders. He thought if leaders becomes Muslims , the whole tribes will also accept Islam . So , when the blind man came & interrupted in middle of the discussion , Prophet did not even scolded him , just frowned. God corrected his this little mistake .

I guess , u know the context of that verse/ chapter . Do u really think it means Prophet didn’t like disabled people ?

Here’s another contrast it’s clear from the Bible that Jesus addressed disabilities. In fact with my friend invited me to church one evening that was the first thing I’d ever heard from the Bible was John chapter 9 I forget the verse but it’s the one where somebody asked Jesus whose fault is it that this man is disabled and Jesus says is no one’s fault. Up until that point in my life I had received very little information about what it meant to be Christian at that time I didn’t even know why Jesus died on the cross that night was the first time in my life that I knew my disability was not my fault before this I used to think that I’d done something wrong or been rejected by God. That was five years ago and I have been in the churchsince then. Once I learned what being Catholic really meant I went through the confirmation process for adults and was confirmed in 2004. On the other hand based on the answers I got from this thread in Islam disabilities aren’t worth discussing since the answers are obvious to Muslims.
The more information that I hear about Mohammad the more convince I am that he is not a prophet of God.

This is in stark contrast to Jesus - who had compassion for the lepers, the blind, the paralytics and the possessed.

if you think Sam is being dishonest then please tell your Muslim friends to stop saying Christians are lying about the Bible. On the contrary I think Sam understands the Koran better than most people here because he speaks Arabic so he can read it and what Muslims considered to be its purest form and its original language. Yeah based on what I’ve seen I have to agree with Sam. It goes back to my original question if this is not true then why aren’t people with disabilities discussed on a mainstream Islamic web sites or sites written for converts?

wrong we quote it because we are discussing Muslim beliefs not because we believe the Koran is true I certainly don’t tink that and I read it.
Christians may not realise it but when they start quoting the Qur’an and the ahadith as “proof” of something, then it really is a sign of acceptance of the truth of Islam.

There is nothing wrong with this folks, Muslims too accept that the Bible contains profound truths.

The difference here is that Muslims know where to draw the line between truth and falsehood whereas Christians really do not have this capability… especially since they themselves have trouble believing significant portions of their own Bible.

if all Muslims do something wrong , does it mean that a Christian is allowed to lie about other religion ? Sam is an Arab Christian , also ex Muslim. Surely he knows the context of the verse ; still he presented it in a way as if Prophet (p) misbehaved with someone just because he was blind .

It’s unfortunate that u did not find the info u needed in some Islamic sites , it does not mean that Islam ignored the matter. God forgave disabled persons from Jihad , sick persons are allowed not to fast during Ramadan but will do that later when s/he is fine , if unable to fast , then one must feed the poor etc etc .

Surah 48. Victory, Conquest

No blame is there on the blind, nor is there blame on the lame, nor on one ill (if he joins not the war): But he that obeys Allah and his Messenger,- ((Allah)) will admit him to Gardens beneath which rivers flow; and he who turns back, ((Allah)) will punish him with a grievous Penalty. ( 48:17)

O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint,-

(Fasting) for a fixed number of days; but if any of you is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed number (Should be made up) from days later. For those who can do it (With hardship), is a ransom, the feeding of one that is indigent. But he that will give more, of his own free will,- it is better for him. And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew ( 2: 183-184)

Just curious - not that I know of but is there any record that Mohammad healed or restored the handicapped (the blinds and the paralytics)? Not people who were sick only but the handicapped / disabled?

I haven’t found any in my research but I don’t know either.

There one problem here with your assertions and it’s that I don’t think he is lying. Not only that it’s very rude to call someone a liar and try to discredit him as a person because he does not agree with the theology. Now there’s a lot about Islam that I don’t agree with but I have never called you a liar or tried to discredit you as a person. Is not true that Muslims believe that the only truly authentic Koran is written in Arabic? So Sam read the original text because he can gave me a interpretation and provided me a link so that I could read it for myself and you’re calling him a liar because you disagree with him? That is completely uncalled for he did not say anything disrespectful to you Sam has the right to express his interpretations just as you do on this board just because you disagree him does not give you the right to disrespect him like that.

I tell you this it wasn’t obvious to me and I’ve read books written for converts not to mention the Koran itself not only is it not mentioned I’ve never heard discussed either. Don’t you think web sites should discuss it? There are web sites for non-Muslims that explain every other aspect of Islam why is this one left out if it is such common knowledge? The provisions for people with disabilities are clearly laid out in Catholicism but we still discuss it. Why is that not done in Islam ?
** All friends have replied adequately. This was a very simple question, could be asked from any Muslim and no need to go to any website for that.
  1. Prayer (Salat) is essential under all conditions for all male/female persons over the age of about 12 years. Ladies are not to perform the prayer during their menses. They are not to fast also.
  2. If any one is sick, he/she has to perform the prayer at the right time, unless the person is unconscious.
  3. The daily prayer is to be performed in the mosque collectively. There are collective prayers and there are individual prayers. The collective prayers (obligatory= Fardh) must be perfromed collectively unless it becomes very difficult / impossible.
  4. The individual prayers should not be perfromed collectively. They are called Nawafil (extra, discretionary, optional prayers).
For the particular question, please see the last two verses of chapter two of Quran, shown below: A small part is shown colored Blue.**

[2:285] This Messenger of Ours believes in that which has been revealed to him from his Lord, and so do the believers: all of them believe in Allah, and in His angels, and in His Books, and in His Messengers, saying, ‘We make no distinction between any of His Messengers;’ and they say, ‘We hear, and we obey. We implore Thy forgiveness, O our Lord, and to Thee is the returning.’

[2:286] Allah burdens not any soul beyond its capacity. It shall have the reward it earns, and it shall get the punishment it incurs. Our Lord, do not punish us, if we forget or fall into error; and our Lord, lay not on us a responsibility as Thou didst lay upon those before us. Our Lord, burden us not with what we have not the strength to bear; and efface our sins, and grant us forgiveness and have mercy on us; Thou art our Master; so help us Thou against the fanatic, hostile disbelieving people.

This is interesting since the OP brought the question of disabled in prayer. Women having menses are not disabled and in fact can go about their normal activities without any hindrance. Since when normal menses is a sickness? And why they are not to perform their prayer like anybody else?

yeah I’m fully aware of these things now it still does not explain to me how I joined a group for disabled Muslims asked the very same question and got no answer what so ever I did ask Muslims but no one would answer. That’s fine I have answer I know where I stand as a disabled person in the eyes of Jesus. It’s clear to me that people with disabilities not a priority to Mohammed so why should they be to his followers? It all makes sense.

**Not only was Sam lying but was trying to mislead the people about Islam and the Prophet Muhammad and going away from the topic. There was no need to write what Sam wrote about the prophet disliking the disabled persons and about Jihad etc. That was malafide, highjacking the matter under discussion away from topic. And it was a wrong report too about Muhammad, the messenger of God…

Muslim Woman is right in challenging /correcting the matter thrown in by Sam, the uninformed ex-Muslim. If Sam has left Islam, that is quite bad enough for him/her. There is no need now to throw mud on the Muslims. After all, his/her parents (grands) must have been Muslims.**

actually no women are told not to pray when they are on their cycles because they are considered to be unclean

HA that’s your opinion! I read with my own eyes how Mohammed turned his back on the blind man that’s all the proof I need I know exactly where I stand in the eyes of Mohammed it’s written right there in the Koran for all to see. Sam didn’t make that up or lie about it.

:dts: Amazing how my fellow Muslims divert from the main subject and start attacking “Sam” instead of admitting what Muhammed did, but I know such mentalities, I’m living with them day by day, they are the fruit of Muhammed’s religion.

Anyway, in addition to the Arabic links I’ve provided, here are additional links in English:

Islamic source #1:
“’*Abdullaah Ibn Umm Maktoom may Allaah be pleased with him was the cousin of Khadeejah Bint Khuwaylid, Mother of the Believers”

"While the Prophet, was thus engaged, 'Abdullaah Ibn Umm Maktoom may Allaah be pleased with him came up and asked him to read a verse from the Quran. “O Messenger of Allaah,” he said, "teach me from what Allaah has taught you.

The Prophet, frowned and turned away from him. He, turned his attention instead to the prestigious group of Quraysh, hoping that they would become Muslims and that by their acceptance of Islam they would bring greatness to the religion of Allaah and strengthen his mission.*"

Islamic source #2:
"*This is an early Makkan Surah, and is connected with an incident which reflects the highest honor on the Prophet’s sincerity in the Revelations that were vouchsafed to him even if they seemed to reprove him for some natural and human zeal that led him to a false step in his mission according to his own high standards.

He was once deeply and earnestly engaged in trying to explain the Holy Qur’an to Pagan Quraysh leaders, when he was interrupted by a blind man, 'Abd Allah ibn Umm Maktum, one who was also poor, so that no one took any notice of him. He wanted to learn the Qur’an. The Holy Prophet naturally disliked the interruption and showed impatience. Perhaps the poor man’s feelings were hurt.*"
