i’ve read Job a couple times and it is kind of hard to follow. Its structure is unusual, with a prose section starting it off and ending it. Sandwiched inbetween is what I think is a lot of poetry.
The argument between Job and his “friends” who are sure he must have done something to deserve everything that happened to him, is inconclusive.
In the end, Job talks with God who chastises Job. When Job seems to show some humility, God seems to relent and let off on him. I don’t remember the details of this at the moment.
In the first prose section, Job says some of the most famous words in the Bible: If we accept the good from the LORD should we not also accept the bad?
A verse in Psalms someplace confirms that bounty and disaster come from God.
The “question” of suffering is not answered.
My personal opinion is that God suffers because of our sins; this is as adequately as I can explain it. God is close to those who share their suffering – and his.
