Where is it written that Joseph died before Jesus started his ministry…in John 6 when Jesus was speaking about himself being the bread of life the Jews murmured about him…“is this not Jesus the son of Joseph?..do we not know his father and mother?”…that doesn’t sound like they were talking about Joseph in the past tense.
Hi,
I think that it has to do with early Church though (St. Joseph thought to have been older than Mary) and the fact that Jesus, just prior to His death on the cross, beckoned His Disciple, John, to take care of His Mom–this supposes that Mary would be alone after Jesus’ death (as His ministry would be completed and He would return to the Father).

Joseph was a bit part in the story of our LORD, being not even a blood relative to Him.

Hi,
I think you are confusing Biblical text with romance/short story novels… consider this: Our Savior had a savior, protector, and provider. The fact that Joseph was not Jesus’s biological father only attests to Jesus’ Divinity (Born by the Power of the Holy Spirit). Joseph was instrumental in Jesus’ life because it was God’s Design to include him in His Plan.

Bit part? No.

We owe St. Joseph a debt of gratitude, praise and veneration second only to Mary.

He spent years of his life in sacrifice, raising Jesus and caring for Mary in spite of the fact that many of his peers likely thought Mary was unfaithful and that he was a fool for not divorcing her.

He remained faithful and chaste, worked hard without seeking any fame, passing through life unnoticed even to this very day. He is however, a towering example to all of us, especially to men.

We woudn’t have all the divorce and porn addiction we now do if more people had devotion to St. Joseph.
