Question about Latin Mass

Many, many hymns sung in Catholic Churches were written by protestants. Particularly hymn composed in English. So long as they don’t contain anything that contradicts Catholic doctrine, why not?

I’ve heard Amazing Grace, too.

You’re not so likely to hear A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, but, that was actually written by Martin Luther and so may be pushing things a bit. But, I’ve seen it in hymnals. It contains no heresy and it’s a beautiful hymn.

There was a real nice song at Communion called You Are Mine. I don’t remember that one. But with the choir and organ it was very nice to listen to since I couldn’t go up for Communion.

I have always believed that reading the same words in Latin or in English (or native language) at the same time double emphasized the meaning of the words. In Latin Mass I always seemed to have gotten more by hearing the Latin, reading the Latin and re-reading the English translation. It was like hearing the sacred words thee times.

I loved it.:o

Hello everybody,
to me the most disconcerting observation about questions regarding the Latin mass is that very very rarely - i.e. never - do I hear ‘what would God like better’. It’s always about ‘us’ selfish people. The Latin mass was there for so long when people could not even read. And today they can read and still complain. We learn all the transient stuff about science and finance etc. but are unwilling to learn something of value - at least of value to 19 centuries or so of real Catholics.
Perhaps those who never studied Latin should first learn it and understand it or be disqualified from rendering edicts about its nature and use and value. In any other professional discipline we commonly accept only qualified judgments except when it comes to church issues especially Catholic ones.
No offense anybody.

Hi! I’m posting a little late! First I am a young woman in my 20’s and I love the Latin Mass. Maybe it is true that the Latin Mass isn’t for everyone. I have gone English mass every Sunday while growing up. A few years ago I became exposed to the Latin Mass. I have not gone back! Even my husband is starting to like it a lot. It is very sacred and just prayerful. That is not to say that normal English mass isn’t. It just feels different and better.
