Hello. Not sure of this is the right forum. I’d just like to ask if anyone here is cognizant of the full meaning of “lineage” in the 15 Prayers of St. Bridget of Sweden, based on private revelations to her by our Lord? In particular, I’m keen on ascertaining whether “lineage” includes the line up one’s tree (i.e.,including one’s parents, grandparents, etc.) or just down one’s tree? Many thanks in advance!

The Vatican have said that promises associated with this pray and the other one of St Bridget should not be taught and they have been taken out of any prayer books. God is in charge of this, not humans, hence the prayer promises are not valid.

Those prayer promises didn’t even come from St Bridget. They were most likely added later by other people, and as the other person said, the Vatican has warned against them. It’s okay to say the prayers, but one shouldn’t believe in the promises. If you wish to pray for some relation of yours, you can pray for someone before or after you in time, just tell God who you are praying for. But there’s no prayer that guarantees salvation for anyone.

Pray them because you like them and you want to honor God, not because you’re trying to get God to do something in particular in exchange. 💙

Regarding its history in general, if you read her actual writings, she’s got plenty of good stuff, but those specific prayers aren’t included in them. (Just like, say, with the Life of St. Gertrude, the prayer associated with her isn’t included-- her prayer for the souls in purgatory involved the recitation of all 150 psalms.)

However, the 15 prayers have been around for several centuries— I’ve seen references to their inclusion in some Books of Hours, if I’m not mistaken-- the “XV Oes of St. Bridget”.

this thread is about prayer promises , not the prayer itself. As such, @Prodigal1984 , you are off topic and attempting to derail the thread.
Flagged. Disrespecting peoples legitimate worship preferences.
You have flagged me for responding about the Vatican response to the prayer promises?

I used to pray these 15 prayers and the St Bridgette prayers that are prayed for 12 years. Specifically for the promises.
However , the Vatican made a very direct action in pulling the Pieta blue prayer book and other books that contained promises of saving our ancestors/ descendents by these prayer promises.

The prayers are not allowed to be printed with the prayer promise, by order, Vatican.

if you have flagged me for pointing out a Vatican directive, I am within my rights to respond to the moderators that I believe you are abusing the system of flagging. None of my post contravenes the Magisterium or CAF TOS.

We are called to obedience and submission to the Magisterium. And as such, we do not pray a prayer set for promises that the Vatican has negated.

Saints are told to be obedient to his or her religious Priests/Ordinaries when visited in revelation.

This is a thread about the prayer promises, not the prayers themselves. As such you are off topic

I did not sign up to a Catholic forum to read how the Magisterium, my Magisterium should have its directives regarding promises and indulgences ignored by other Catholics.

Yeah, pretty much everybody who says St Bridget Prayers (I also have) knows about the promises being removed from the old editions of the Pieta Prayer Book. It’s not disrespectful to point out “superstitious” prayer promises on the forum - we do this every time somebody posts one of those “Never Known to Fail” novenas. Flagging because you disagree with the Vatican teaching on such promises is ridiculous.
