Basically, there is a Manga which I read online every week, as soon as it is released. It takes a long time before it is released to buy in English, and I go and buy it when it is available. So, recently I was wondering whether it is a sin or not to be reading these scanlations, even though I always buy the volumes when they are officially released. I asked a friend, and she says not, since nobody is losing any money from me reading the Manga before I could buy it, but I wanted some more opinions?

Thanks, in advance! 🙂

I agree with your friend. You’re a good customer in my book.

Nope, you’re fine, especially since you’re still buying official releases. I make it a point to buy them too and start a collection. 😃

Let me just add though, scanlations have their own pros and cons even without the whole legality issue. They’re electronic for one thing and let me tell you, even if you download them on a portable device, they are a pain to read. Then of course, there’s also the simple fact that books don’t need batteries. 😛

Some of the past official translations have been horribly done though. 😛
