Okay I want to try my hardest to not sound…cheap by posting this but I am wondering if there is a place I can get Mantilla’s for… well cheap. If I had the money I would splurge on this but I really don’t. My husband and I are very tight on money at the moment and can barely spare a penny but I feel like this is important. I really feel like I should wear one to mass.

I would google it but something just doesn’t feel right about googling “Cheap Mantilla’s”

What’s your definition of cheap?

I made my own, but even they were expensive because I could only get lace from a bridal fabric store. They’re easy to make if you can find cheap lace at the fabric store.

I am not sure how much they normally run but I would say no more then $20

My friend and I make Chapel Veils all the time!

We just buy the lace fabric from Hobby Lobby or JoAnn Fabrics (and buy trim. Then, just cut out a triangle, sew on the trim (it really doesn’t take any sewing skills, and if you don’t have a machine, you could buy a needle and handstitch!) Get it blessed and you are all set to go! My friend and I prefer to make them as we can choose the size for them and pick out the lace we like the most.

We usually make a bunch at a time, but I think you could probably by 1/3 yard of lace fabric and 1 yard of trim. At Hobby Lobby, you could probably make it for about $5. Just keep your eyes out for the sales too!

It is all according to how complex or simple you want it to be. My wife makes them from time to time and it’s very simple and easy to do. There are a few diy things on the net you can look at to get an idea.

You can check places like Modesty Veils for prices if you aren’t into doing it on your own. You might also check the CAF forum group ‘Veiled in Grace.’

Many Catholic goods shops may carry them, you will just have to ask them in person if you cannot find them easily. I did get both of mine from Ebay, there are many styles and colors to choose from, and various price ranges.

I bought mine for $6.00 through the EWTN Religious Catalogue. This is really inexpensive so I would say buy from them. 🙂

You don’t need a mantilla, cheap, expensive or otherwise, in order to cover your head at Mass. Wear whatever you already own, a scarf, a hat, bandana even.

The old rule (that is no longer in force) about a woman covering her head in Mass never said what she was supposed to wear. Mantillas were not common at all until Jackie Kennedy started wearing them.

If you can’t afford the one you like, and don’t like the ones you can afford, than simply wear something else altogether. Or don’t wear a headcovering at all.

The social group Veiled in Grace has an entire section devoted to online shops selling mantillas and a whole host of other head wear. Several of the member make mantillas as well. You might want to head over there.

I have purchased mantillas from ebay for 8-12 dollars… all good quality. PM me if you would like the seller names.
