Question about Mass intentions..

I have masses said for myself as well as my family every so often. I do this through the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (cnewa.org/generalpg-verus.aspx?pageID=167)). Now, what happens if those masses weren’t said? What if the masses didn’t happen?

Is there some reason to think they haven’t been said?

For myself, when I request a Mass I do it at my parish and I attend the Mass, but it’s usually some kind of special occasion and I would want to attend the Mass anyway.

I was just curious. At my parish you have to plan a year in advance by using the mass book. With that website I quoted, you can just plug in the money/donation at ANYTIME and the mass will happen. I just donated $20.00 for four masses for myself. It has been said that a mass said for one’s self during our lifetime is much more beneficial than 1,000 after it.

One is bound by canon law to celebrate masses if intentions have been solicited and accepted.

CNEWA sends all Mass intentions and offerings to the Hole See’s Congregation for the Eastern Churches. The congregation in turn sends these requests to Eastern Catholic eparchies (dioceses) throughout the world. Priests in these jurisdictions say the Masses and rely on the offerings as a primary means of support, especially since most Eastern Catholic eparchies cannot support its priests as clerics in the US are accustomed.
