That’s the most likely explanation. As a way less charitable alternative, perhaps they feel the prayers are being recited too slowly and are trying to speed things up a little?
yes probably, and quickly ignored it, NOMB, maybe they are hard of hearing, who knows, who cares?

Ah well, something else to offer up…Actually, it is often a misnomer that someone saying, for instance the Rosary fast is not giving it full respect.There are two ways that are perfectly respectful and valid ways to say it, 1) saying each Hail Mary slowly and with concentration on the Hail Mary prayer itself, or 2) concentrating so deeply on the mystery that the Hail Mary is only what your body does (and is usually faster, tho’ not always). I prefer, very much, the latterThere are people who speed through all prayers believing falsely that the quality of the prayer does not matter.
I strongly disagree. I have seen 5-mystery rosaries done in under 10 minutes and was shocked by what I felt was the sacreligous nature of this and the denial of time to meditate. (When I say a 5-mystery rosary is takes over 45 minutes.)
I deliberately try to slow down these speed prayers, by saying them slower and sometimes I have an effect on the group. I realize that this is a bit disruptive, but hope that the benefit to others outweighs the disruption.
You should seek quality in all your prayers, truly putting your whole heart, mind and soul behind each prayer.
One Hail Mary said with respect and full meaning of each word can be worth more than many speed rosaries.
Pray for these speed prayers that God may touch their hearts and minds and help them understand the difference between quanity and quality and come to seek a deep quality in their prayer life.
and I don’t feel that I’ve been respectful of Our Lord or the BVM otherwise (it is the traditional way to say it and saying each Hail Mary slowly became popular after VII). That said, I wouldn’t know how to even get my mouth to go so fast as to go through all decades of the Rosary in 10 minutes.
Sometimes it takes me longer to complete all mysteries. From what I’ve seen there seem to be both in each group and both types are being fully respectful with full concentration on Our Lord and Lady.
