Hello, Im Marc. I just had a quick question about Missals. I live in the UK so I have a CTS new daily Missal. I was just wondering in terms of other countries around the world, are Missals generally the same i.e. same readings on the same days or is there any difference?

For instance I know today’s Mass reading in the UK was Isaiah 40:25-31, was this the same reading for the USA?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I think the whole RC church has the same readings. The same reading is on USCCB USA site for today. The only difference would be if it’s a saints day in one country that isn’t celebrated in the other country, and the priest uses the readings for the saint day.

The readings are the same but you’ll find variations in the language since each country or group of countries uses a different translation of the Bible. Canada uses the revised NRSV, the US the revised NAB, and I believe England and Wales use the Jerusalem Bible.

Yes, the readings are the same worldwide, except that some saints’ days are specific to certain countries, which might then have an alternative reading for that day. Similarly, in some countries Corpus Christi is moved from Thursday to Sunday, and so the readings will be moved accordingly.
