Ladies, what do you find immodest/tempting that guy’s wear, and do wrestling singlets cause temptation (lust)?

One thing that distresses me in summer, is that men wear shorts to church. I attended 5pm Thursday Mass at the convent, and people sat round the room, facing inward to each other, and there were all those bare tanned legs, in rows. Very distracting.

I think the ultra revealing swim-suits are immodest, and I would not like to see a guy in wrestling singlets. I don’t even like wrestling for men or women.

I don’t think these things cause temptation or lust. I think lust is already in a person’s heart. If you see something immodest look the other way, don’t keep looking. Sometimes I think people start out with the lust and go out looking for something to satisfy it. Not sure that makes sense, but that is my view.

I suppose temptation might be more readily associated with what people wear, but I really maintain it has to be in the heart in the first place.

Nothing. I understand that gear for sports is gear for sports.
Not everything is a cause for lust or scandal. You’re young. It is what it is.
Pray for purity and stop obsessing over it.
Young women find pure young men very attractive. You’ll be fine.

I do not find rows of knobby knees on my “subjectively inspires lust” list. Am I in the minority?

I do not find wrestling singlets a cause of temptation. I mostly think they’re either funny or gross.

I would say women don’t perceive physical attraction in the same way men do. Women consider nice eyes, well groomed hair and athletic bodies physically attractive. They may be briefly distracted by such a man if he wore a monk’s habit but to lust after them, while there are exceptions to every rule I would say it would take more than dress and they would have to like him as well as find him physically attractive. Even women who go to see male strippers go more so to have a laugh with their mates.

I remember making an off-the-cuff remark about running off with Brad Pitt (I’ve gone off him recently but I’m fickle that way :p) to a male friend of mine who had become a Christian and recently married. Looking slightly shocked he said in all seriousness, ‘Would you really have an affair with Brad Pitt?’ Well I just fell about laughing. :rotfl: I asked him what the chances were of me even meeting Brad Pitt, let alone Brad Pitt being interested in me? I don’t see any harm in looking at the menu when your on a diet and I think that’s all most women do. If I had the choice of Brad Pitt in a wrestling singlet and a big cream bun I’d probably opt for the cream bun.

Can’t say knobbly knees inspire me to lust.

A really good-looking guy with an athletic body in swimming gear may inspire me to lust for a few seconds, but I’d get over it pretty quickly p particularly if someone nearby was selling big cream buns or ice-cold beer.

Sometimes men not only have knobby knees but they also have hairy legs. Some of them get waxed, but that can be painful.

Mink…you crack me up.
Yes, OP…women don’t go there for the most part.
It’s a matter of age, and not having had a serious relationship. When you’re in love with someone and they are your wife or husband, these things become properly ordered.
In the meantime, people of all ages are called to master their passions.
What you find lustful may make another person laugh. But we must master these things. Prayer helps.

In addition - I would say don’t dwell on it and keep it in perspective.

Most men and women would have a sexual thought if they see a drop-dead gorgeous, scantily clad member of the opposite sex. It’s normal. We can control every thought that enters our head and we would go insane if we tried to. That said we can choose what to with those thoughts. We can recognize it as a passing thought that is normal, let it go and move on. It’s having a thought you want to harm someone when you are very angry with them. Most people neither dwell on it or act on it.

That kind of reminds me of the extended version of The Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Rings. A hobbit is romancing his girlfriend only to get distracted at the last moment by a plateful of pastries being passed along.

For me a really good looking guy in a hockey uniform is a near occasion of sin but I get over it quickly if someone was passing around cream tarts.

is it really lust or infatuation?

I didn’t mean to sound impolite, and I forgot yo add a “smiley.”

I’m a sucker for a beefy guy, perhaps with a slight drawl. And he could buy me a Guinness. Or creme puffs. Or make some chicken soup with a baugette…wait, where was I? 😉

I was thinking that wrestling singlets would be pretty modest bathing suits, no? They’d be kinda old fashioned that way.

I really dislike shorts at Mass. I really dislike the immodest way some woman and most of the young girls dress for Mass. Summer is a real problem when it comes to modesty and dressing well for the Lord. I’ve started wearing a white shirt and tie every Sunday hoping it will catch on.:signofcross:

I love your comments, pianistclare, minkymurph, and Miserissima.

These modesty threads fascinate me because they make it so obvious, and in such a funny way, how the genders differ.

Johnnyt3000, whoever said that young women find pure young men very attractive is absolutely right. Though I haven’t been young for a long time, I remember how nice it was to be around a guy who was interested in me as a person. That is what’s attractive, when a man treats you with kindness and respect. Appearance is nice, especially pretty eyes, but it certainly isn’t all that important. I ended up marrying a handsome man, but it was his gentleness and politeness, along with his intelligence, that attracted me.

Clothing doesn’t matter, as long as it’s clean.
