A few years ago, our Parish Priest hired a Music Director. She is an Episcopal. She conducts the Music and Choir for 2 Masses. And most of the time she performs duties as “Cantor”. She does the Vigil Mass and the early morning Sunday Mass and then goes to her Episcopal Church for her normal service.

Is this okay?

We also have a non-Catholic organist at one of our parishes. It is okay. It’s preferable to have a Catholic, but not necessary. The hope is that your music director will one day see the light.

Our pianist and sometimes cantor is LDS. I’m not sure if he is paid or not. He isn’t the musical director. I truly hope that his time spent with us does lead him to the truth.

We had a non-Catholic organist for years during the 60s and 70s. It was fine. Sometimes I really miss the way he used to play hymns. He also was not a prima donna. When he left or retired, the parish got some Catholic guy who by several accounts was a pain to deal with and I think he ended up having a dispute with the pastor and either quit or got fired.

Episcopalians/Anglicans are known for their excellence in church music. You all are lucky to have her.

I know what you mean. My prior parish, we had a Prima Donna too. We called the Mass, “The Jane Doe Show”. Can’t use her real name for obvious reasons.

When she did the “Great Amen” visitors and new people would turn their heads toward her…she was drawing way too much attention to herself.

Unfortunately, half the Parish does not like her Cantor. They pointed out that she is nasal. Which I had not noticed until they pointed it out. I am one of the go-to persons at our church when someone want to voice a complaint. I use to be the KOC rep for the PAC. Even though I resigned from the KOC, they still think I should be their voice…It get’s tiring at times. That is why I asked the question here. They asked me if she being there was Kosher and are afraid to ask the Priest.
