I just recently got a one decade rosary I I’m not sure how to use just the one decade rosary can someone please explain(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

It just says one decade rosary and then on the back it says one decade st. Therese rosary and that’s all it says. My husband bought this for me

Sacrifice Beads

What are Sacrifice Beads?

Fish Eaters - sacrifice beads

Sacrifice Beads of St Therese

Otherwise if it is to be used to pray a single decade of the rosary, then I would assume 1 Our Father and 10 Hail Marys, and 1 Glory Be - which is a penance I have received in the past (offer up a single decade of the rosary).

Yet, the bead/rosary in the pic provided doesn’t allow for this. You could say the Our Father on the Crucifix and then the 10 Hail Marys’ but you wouldn’t say the Glory Be on the St Therese medal.

You could pray the rosary on it, although it appears to be missing the Pater Noster bead.

To do so, start by making the Sign of the Cross then pray the Apostles’ Creed, an Our Father, three Hail Marys and a Glory Be on the crucifix. Still on the crucifix, *pray the Our Father for the first Mystery. Moving to the beads, pray one Hail Mary on each. Pray a Glory Be and (optional) Fatima Prayer on the medal. Return to the crucifix and repeat from * four more times, once for each of the remaining Mysteries. After you have prayed five decades, pray a Hail Holy Queen and any other prayers you normally end your rosary with (e.g. O God, whose only begotten Son…) on the medal. End with the Sign of the Cross. Voilà. 🙂
you wouldn’t say the Glory Be on the St Therese medal.
As far as I know, it isn’t prohibited to do so. 🤔

Prohibited? Don’t know. Though I’d think Tradition has a lot of bearing on things.

Having the St Therese medal on the end is giving me pause, and the fact that there is a spare loop of cord between the crucifix and the first bead suggests they are meant to be moved, going by the links of sacrifice beads.

@IAmBlessed2 - do the beads move along the spare cord section?

Indeed, I believe the primary purpose of these beads is to function as sacrifice/good deed beads. If we can pray the rosary on our fingers, however, I’m not sure why we wouldn’t be able to pray the Glory Be or other prayers on the medal. The bead set is merely a counting mechanism so we don’t lose our place. 🙂

Well then if they do not move, then perhaps they are meant to be used solely as a simple decade rosary. Perhaps having the St Therese medal is a motivation to imitate her in her acts of devotion towards God and towards others in life by doing good deeds for others.

No, the card that was attached to it only says 1 decade Saint Therese rosary

Hmm. That sort of throws my sacrifice beads theory out the window, then. On the other hand, if this is supposed to be a single decade rosary, the absence of a Pater Noster bead puzzles me. So, I don’t know. :woman_shrugging:t2:

It is this one

One Decade Rosary Beads

" Some one decade rosary beads are kept straight and may even be fastened into a key chain or trinket that you can attach to your bag, purse or wallet. These rosary usually consist of a cross or a crucifix, 1 “Our Father” and 10 “Hail Mary” beads and may end in a knot, ring or even a clip."

So you just pray 1 x Our Father on the crucifix and then 10 x Hail Marys.⬆️

I can’t think nor find any other instructions on how to use it to pray one decade. I also think its designed to be used single handedly.
God bless.

Sometimes things like these are made as bracelets so you can put it around your wrist (can’t tell if this one is sufficiently lengthy for that purpose) so that you can carry a rosary on you everywhere. Then, you just re-use the beads 5 times to cover the entire rosary. I have one of those put away somewhere.

This is (a lousy photo of) an Irish penal rosary, a single-decade rosary used by Irish Catholics when the Penal Laws were in effect during British rule.

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

As you can see it has eleven beads, a Pater Noster and ten Ave Marias. Yours does not have the Pater Noster, which is what made me think they’re sacrifice beads. On your beads, the Our Father could be prayed on the crucifix instead.

God bless!

Most of the time when I pray the rosary I use a single decade ring, like this: Google? Rosary ring

I think it’s assumed that you know all the other prayers and pray them either without the beads or on the crucifix. The ten Hail Mary beads are there so you don’t have to count. You reuse the same ones for each decade.
