Question About Prayer Threads

I hope it’s ok to post this question here:
I’ve noticed that OP’s don’t always come back on threads to let people know how things turned out, especially when they’re not regular posters on the forums. How do you Prayer Warriors who’ve been praying with this forum for some time handle that; on what do you base your discontinuation of prayer for an individual intention? That may be a really OCD kind of question to ask, but forum- praying is new to me and I have a lot to learn.

One thing I’ve learned over the years from my relationship with God is that “Information is given on a need-to-know basis.” If God thinks I need to know the results of my prayers for someone, He’ll let me know. If He doesn’t let me know, then I didn’t need to know. I’ll continue to pray for an intention as long as the Spirit moves me to pray for it.

I personally believe that we should remember in our prayer requests those serving in Iraq. These people need prayers now than ever. They have left their families for us. They deserve our prayers.

Also I pray for those who have rejected Christ.

I belong to the Divine Mercy Eucharistic Apostolate and as a member I am required daily to pray for the following and I hope that you will include these intentions, too.

We are to pray for all sinners
For the souls of priests and religious (this is very important)
For those who have separated themselves from the Church
For the souls in Purgatory ( if we do not pray for them or offer Plenary Indulgences, how will they be released–we can also have mass intentions said)
We should pray for the entire world
We can also include our own intentions
We should always pray for sinners and those people who are about to die and are unprepared for death
These are my intentions and I offer them to the Eternal Father and grant them the Divine Mercy Mercies on their souls.

Everyone’s prayer petition falls into a typical category, such as sickness, marital problems, conversions, etc. I am quite overwhelmed by the number of intentions listed, in addition to my own personal intentions, so I will pray that day for a specific person and their intention and write in my prayer list. Then everyday I pray for all who are sick, for all who suffer marital problems, for all who seek conversions for loved ones and for those who need coverting, etc… I also ask God to watch over those for whom I have specifically said I will pray and everyone in my prayer list, including those who have had their prayers answered that they will continue to experience gratitude and hope. Someone once said that God remembers all of the intentions we pray for, even when our own human faculties prevent it. I just trust in the Lord and in His Divine Providence for all whom I offer to pray.

Here is a side note. I used to find that I did not have enough time in the day to pray and would frequently ignore requests for prayer because I knew I wouldn’t be able to get to it. Since becoming a Prayer Warrior, I have been blessed with an increased capacity for prayer and an increased desire to pray. It is a great blessing and a grace, and I am confident that the Lord will lead you to the method of prayer and manner of remembering intentions that He deems appropriate for you and your talents.

That’s what I think too. When I post in a prayer thread, I pray right then and there, and then other times when I’m praying I ask God to remember those I’ve placed in my heart and to help them. (I know He can remember all the people I’ve prayed for when I can’t.)

A bit off-topic, but: I don’t pray for everyone who posts a request here specifically (not enough time unfortunately ) but I almost always try to at least pray/post for those who have 3 or fewer responses to their threads. That way their threads get bumped (so hopefully more people will pray for them). When I have more time I pray for as many as I can (and then the number of prayer responses is irrelevant). Sometimes I pray for people but don’t post…just some randomness on how I pray at CAF. Sometimes if I’m overwhelmed I just ask God to help all those at CAF.

I personally don’t worry about it. Some people tell you what eventually happened and some don’t. I pray everyday for my CAF friends, all of them and leave the rest to God.

Thanks for suggestions; they help.

My question wasn’t so much because I want to know whether the prayer was answered, just not really knowing when to discontinue prayer for a particular intention. Some are obvious, but many are not. There are some older threads that I’ve wanted to re-open because they touch my heart particularly and could still need prayer but I didn’t know whether that was ok or not. I guess it is?

Dear sister, often prayer requests are part of a journey which may take time. They may be many, but each for whom we pray becomes part of our family and part of our life, in our prayers and Masses always even if not always specifically remembered. One remembers this and that one with compassion at different times even much time later. No response doen’t worry me…I cherish each person anyway.
