Hi all,

I posted this in another part of the forum by mistake, so I’m reposting it here.

Soon I am planning to pray a Novena to St. Raphael to seek a soul mate.

I’ve never done this before, and I have a few questions, so I can do it properly.
  1. I found a specific prayer online to pray to him. It can be found here.
So my question is, do I need to say this exact prayer word for word? And if so, do I need to memorize the whole thing word for word?

Also, should I still pray to God about seeking a mate during and after the Novena?
  1. If in fact I do need to say the prayer word for word, can I add things to it, such as what I am looking for in a girl? Or, should that be a separate prayer directly to God?
Also, do I need to say any other prayers before and/or after starting the prayer each night?

Any help is appreciated.

Novenas or any prayers are not a magical incantation or spell. You can skip a word, accidentally miss a day, or any other thing that doesnt go exactly perfect. Think logically. Would the God you know keep a spouse from you because you didn’t say a novena perfectly? No. Novenas are powerful and good. Be confident!

I would also add to your prayer that if God’s will for you is to not get married, that you be open to that and discern his call for you.

Thanks for the advice, but if I’m not ever meant to have a companion or get married, than to be quite honest, I’d rather not even live any longer. I’d probably instead tell him that if companionship was never in the cards for me, than to just call me home.

The Novena of Grace in Honour of Saint Francis Xavier

O most kind and loving saint,
in union with you I adore the most divine majesty.
The memory of the favours with which God blessed you during life,
and of your glory after death,
fills me with joy.
And I unite with you in offering to him
my humble tribute of thanksgiving and praise.
I implore of you to secure for me,
through your powerful intercession,
the all-important blessing of living and dying in a state of grace.
I also ask you to obtain the favour I ask in this novena.
But if what I ask is not for the greater glory of God,
or the good of my soul,
obtain for me what is most conducive to both.
Amen.

I found this prayer last year:
Loving Father,
You know that the deepest desire of my heart is to meet someone that I can share my life with.
I trust in your loving plan for me and ask that I might meet soon the person that you have prepared for me.
Through the power of your Holy Spirit, open my heart and mind so that I recognise my soulmate.
Remove any obstacles that may be in the way of this happy encounter,
So that I might find a new sense of wholeness, joy and peace.
Give me the grace too, to know and accept, if you have another plan for my life.
I surrender my past, present and future into the tender heart of your Son, Jesus,
Confident that my prayer will be heard and answered.
AMEN.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
St. Valentine, pray for me.
