I have a question about the eucharist, I know if your in a state of mortal sin you’re not supposed to receive communion. My question is what if you do?

Receiving the Eucharist while in a state of mortal sin is another mortal sin and should be confessed.
One’s culpability would be mitigated if one did not know that it was offensive to God, but it would still be a good idea to confess it. If one does know that receiving the Eucharist in a state of mortal sin is a mortal sin and does it anyway, then one would have to ask… why receive the Eucharist?

St. Paul taught expressly on this:
Corinthians 11:27 And so, whoever eats this bread, or drinks from the cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be liable of the body and blood of the Lord.
Corinthians 11:29 For whoever eats and drinks unworthily, eats and drinks a sentence against himself, not discerning it to be the body of the Lord.
How can we receive Jesus if we are in mortal sin?
When we can very easily correct this by going to confession receive absolution and become worthy again?

Can. 916 A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to celebrate Mass or to receive the Body of the Lord without prior sacramental confession unless a grave reason is present and there is no opportunity of confessing; in this case the person is to be mindful of the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition, including the intention of confessing as soon as possible. [This is a truly exceptional permission that needs to be properly understood. It requires moral or physical impossibility to go to Confession and the necessity to receive Communion - such as a priest who MUST celebrate Mass.]

- A member of the Christian faithful is obliged to confess in kind and in number all serious sins committed after baptism and not yet directly remitted through the keys of the Church nor acknowledged in individual confession, of which one is conscious after diligent examination of conscience.
