This is obviously in line with all the advice I have received here, and I would like to thank you for your knowledge. Do you also feel that the advice is accurate?
Yes, in general, their advice was good. Go see a priest-- that is the first step.

The only thing that is not quite accurate is this:
The civil ceremony should not cause major issues but a process needs to be completed.
This shows a lack of understanding regarding non-Catholic marriages as they relate to Catholic marriage law. Non-Catholics are not bound by form unless their own faith tradition requires it. Therefore, it is not accurate to say the “civil ceremony should not cause major issues”. Indeed, it could be found to be a valid marriage.
