Question about rosary

When I was a kid and went to a Catholic School we were not aloud to put rosary’s around our neck.

Now I have to admit I am quite a jewerly freak. I love it. There is a necklace made out of 14kt gold sold in the jewerly store that is called the rosay necklace. It does look just like the rosary’s.

Now is it a sin to wear that necklace in our faith?

I don’t know if it’s a sin, but it’s quite common here in TX. There was a thread a while back that went into this issue extensively. I’m not computer or forum savy so maybe someone will come along and link that thread for you!

If you’re wearing it as a sign of faith, that’s one thing.

If you’re wearing it as jewellery or bling, that’s another.

Look at it this way: would you be willing to wear a simple cord rosary around your neck?

Wearing a rosary around the neck, for the right reasons, is not at all sinful. Since, if I’m understanding you correctly, the necklace you saw isn’t an actual rosary–it just looks like one–there would be no concern at all.

I personally wouldn’t do it, but that’s just me. I mean if you’re using it as an expression of your faith, like a cross or crucifix necklace, then I don’t see the harm. If you’re wearing it because it’s fashionable at the moment or for reasons like; it matches your outfit, then I’d think perhaps it was best not to. Even if it’s just a necklace mimicking the rosary, we all still know and appreciate what it represents.

Wear it as a sign of your faith and as an example to others.

Do not wear it as a piece of pretty jewelry.

However, what I really recommend is getting a brown Scapular and a crucifix. Those look nicer to me personally, and they are specifically meant for wearing.

I think it’s alright to wear it as a sacramental, for protection, or as a sign of your faith… but not really as jewellery… because there are people who don’t believe in God or Christianity at all and they wear rosaries just as a fashion statement, and that’s kind of sad I think because we shouldn’t use the sacramentals, holy images, objects, for “secular” purposes…

I will ask Father for sure this weekend or the next. Because I do wear the Blessed Mother and Jesus and it is blessed. SO If I do get it I would be sure to have it blessed anyway.

It may take me a couple weeks before I get a chance to ask Father, but I will find out for sure and let you guys know. Thanks and will get back to you. He is so busy I hate to always ask him, but I will be helping him alot in the next couple weeks so Hopefully I remember to ask.
