Louis Mazar:
Unless the father of that girl accepts Christ and becomes a Christian then he will go to Hell when he passes away. Christ said that no man comes to the Father except by Christ.
Christ’s words should not always be taken as applying universally to all people of all times. Sometimes his words are addressed to a specific group. Sometimes they are addressed to a specific individual at a specific time in that individual’s life.

When Christ told the rich young man that he should sell all that he had and give it to the poor, I don’t think that he was condemning wealth as such or that he was recommending all rich people to do this. There is a correct and an incorrect use of wealth. What was probably going on was that Christ saw that this particular young man was too attached to his wealth.

In other words, statements in the Bible should not be taken out of context and understood as having universal applicability because sometimes they are not of universal applicability. Or so it seems to me.

Anyway, “Judge not that ye be not judged.” Nobody knows who, if anyone, is going to hell. There are some who feel that everyone will ultimately be saved.

romano,

Don’t you know the reason that Christ was crucified on the Cross? Christ was crucified on the Cross to save mankind from Hell. Christ plainly stated that unless individuals come to believe that He is the Savior that they will go to Hell when they pass away. That is what Christ clearly stated. And if anybody does not believe that then there must be something wrong with them.

Louis Mazar,

Are you a Feeneyist or a Catholic? If the latter, then do you disagree with Pius XII when he states that one can be joined by a “certain unconscious yearning and desire” to the Catholic Church?

Glad to see you on this thread, Dave.

Thanks Maureen. If Louis is giving his personal theological perspective, that is one thing. It ought to be clear to all that Louis’ perspective is contrary to Catholic teaching, as Pius XII made clear in condemning the errors of Fr. Leonard Fenney. And since Louis professes to be Catholic, his dissent with Catholic teaching is rather curious.

One can be joined in soul to the Catholic Church though not in body, through a certain unconscious desire (Jews included) according to Pius XII and all the popes since. As such, they may be saved by the same ark of salvation as are those joined in body and soul to the Catholic Church, so long as they live in faith and charity.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen, from his book *Seven Words of Jesus and Mary *(1945), commenting on Jesus’ first words from the Cross, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Lk 23:34)
Ignorance [of their evil deeds] here is represented not as a cure, but a blessing… Our Savior…implied that [his executioners] could be forgiven ONLY because they were ignorant of their terrible crime. It was not their wisdom that would save them, but their ignorance. (Fulton Sheen, *Seven Words of Jesus and Mary, *ch. 1)

Absolutely agree.

What’s gotten to me is, all of my life, I said I believed
in Jesus as Messiah…out of fear…but I never did, Dave.

What you wrote above, is my own conclusion.
If Jesus is Messiah and Lord, then I will be saved
“…by the same ark of salvation…” through His mercy.

What I don’t get is, why aren’t more Catholics aware
of Fr. Feeney and the Church’s reply to his view??

Best regards,
Maureen
