Question about Saturday/Sunday Mass

I had wanted to go to daily mass this (Saturday) morning but couldn’t make it.

I’m going to confession this (Saturday) afternoon, and I’m planning to go to mass tomorrow, Sunday, with a friend of mine.

Since confession ends shortly before the Saturday evening mass begins, I was thinking about sticking around and attending the Saturday mass, even though I’m probably going to hear the same homily, etc. tomorrow.

Is that bad? Would I just be better off watching today’s taped daily mass this evening on EWTN?
 
Since you are going to confession this afternoon, the assumption is that you will be free of mortal sin and be able to receive the Eucharist – a great honor and a GREAT source of grace and blessing … something that you will not obtain from watching it on TV.

You can receive communion tomorrow as well – getting even more graces from your meeting with Our Lord in the Eucharist.

I can’t think of any likely scenarios where it would be bad to attend mass.
 
Thank you both! I suppose I was more worried about hearing the same readings and homily twice, which is a bit silly, I know.

The only situation I can think of would be when you are neglecting a serious obligation, such as your family, for a second or third Sunday Mass. Our Lord is pleased when we attend the Sacrifice of the Mass, but he would be displeased if we neglected the other obligations in our lives.

For example, when couples celebrate the Sacrament of Matrimony, they take on the obligation to care for their family, both spouse and children. This obligation is no less serious than the obligation to attend Mass on a weekly basis. IMHO, it would be a very serious breach of that obligation to neglect one’s spouse or children to attend a second or third Mass. Extra Mass attendance is laudable, but it must not infringe on other obligations.

I guess it would depend on if the priest is a good preacher. It might actually be a great sacrifice to hear it twice. 😉
 
Ha! That’s a good point Father! That could be really good, or really bad :o

In this case, I’ve decided to go to confession at a church a bit further down the street, where I used to attend when I first moved here. I’ll stay there for the 5:30 mass afterward and then go to my regular parish tomorrow with my friend. That way I definitely won’t get the same sermon twice!

The point about marriage from the poster before you is certainly a good one. Though in my case I’m a bachelor so not really a concern here. More just making sure that I wasn’t somehow lessening the importance of Sunday mass by attending twice when I’m not actually serving…
 
Some weeks I go to Mass 3 times on Sunday. Well, actually, I’ll go to the 4:15 PM Vigil Mass( Ordinary form) on Saturday on the way to work, and then on Sunday, I’ll go to the 12:30 PM Forma extraordinaria (TLM), and then I’ll go to the OF at 5:15 PM.

(I don’t receive Communion twice on Sunday of course)

I’ve found that assisting at both forms of the Liturgy on Sunday is good for my spirituality, and has eliminated my error of arguing the EF is better than the OF. My own way of honoring HH BXVI’s SP I suppose. 🙂

You can receive Communion more than once on Sunday, you know. You can receive twice in a day (as long as the second time is at a Mass as yours is) - a day, for purposes of the relevant Canon, being midnight to midnight.
 
How many times have you watched a rerun of a favorite show or a favorite movie? How many times have you watched a replay of sports highlights?

Every time we go to mass, we receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ, despite any homily we hear or rehear…so it’s worth going each time. We receive so many graces by it’s reception. So go! Go and meet God in the Eucharist!👍
 
There are some homilies that I would love to hear again. In any case, being present at Mass is WAY better than watching it on TV, no matter what the quality of the preaching.
 
Well I did stick around after confession - which was pretty good, as I had been a bit down about the fact that I may have had a priestly vocation and now it’s nearly too late, and Father helped me with that. The mass was not great, but okay, and the homily was actually quite good. The same priest who heard my confession ended up being the celebrant (there were two hearing confession) and we spoke a bit after as well. So that was pretty nice.

Hi Lily, I thought once was the rule, but fair enough. Thanks for mentioning it, but now I’ve got a question lol.
