Some Protestants I know, who have made a big song and dance about what they term “grace” as contrasted with “law”, and the responsibility of individual Christians to collaborate in engaging each others’ vocations and gifts as per the parable of the talents and Eph 4, are now worrying me with their latest ploy.
The most senior member of that church stated in front of the full congregation that at their prayer meeting, it was not supposed to be about asking God for a lot of things and that nothing may be done unless an “encounter” with God happens first.
First God encounters us specially as individuals, while if the Queen walked in she would shake hands with a few elders and a few old people and a few children specially primed, and the rest of us would stand about demurely, but the Queen will not have interacted with us at all. Thus it sounds like what they have in mind is a seance.
Secondly they are barring the way and delaying the chance of mediation and intercession of the open-handed Almighty on behalf of the urgent needs of all the many needy in our midst as well as elsewhere, while they delay before giving it their say-so - by “their” I mean those in self-proclaimed “authority”, namely a hierarchy far worse than they criticise us Catholics for having. At least the Catholic Church is open about actually having a hierarchy and rules, even if it forgets what they are for. These people are extremely dishonest about the fact that they are confused, to a far greater extent than the Catholics.
Please can any kindly Protestant readers, who think they understand this situation, help me cope with this (and any other kindly readers also). Thank you.
