Question about sterile couples having intercourse

I know the church’s position on intercourse is that it should be for making children and sterile couples are encouraged to adopt but are sterile couples allowed to have intercourse with each other?

Keep in mind that most of the time, even for healthy couples, sex will not result in pregnancy - either the woman is not at the right part of her cycle (usually a pretty narrow window every month), or she is pregnant already, her cycles are naturally suppressed after giving birth, etc. A woman is still permitted to have sex with her husband after going through menopause.

The important thing is that the sex act - the gift of each spouse to the other - can be completed. Impotency - the inability to complete the sex act - is an impediment to marriage, but infertility is not.
