Okay, I finally got a Catechism and am trying to figure it out…
We learned nothing about it in RCIA 😦
okay say I looked in the back for
Sacramentals 1667-76
okay I turned to a page and at the end of the quote it shows 173
at Bottom of the page, it shows
173 SC 60
Okay I know SC stands for Sacrosanctum Concilium
but can someone explain the numbers, and where in the Bible it would be?

I am looking up something from the Bible IN the catechism

Sacramentals have been instituted by the Church on its own authority. However, if you want a Biblical basis, Jesus used a form of sacramentals himself once when he healed a blind man: he made a mud paste that He put over the eyes of the man, before telling him to wash in the Pool of Siloam.

An example to clarify how to sort out the abbreviations:

the number 173 expands to:
Cf. SC 79; CIC, can. 1168; De Ben 16, 18. where;

Cf. SC stands for Sacrosanctum concilium
CIC stands for Codex Iuris Canonici
De Ben stands for de Benedictionibus

Hope this helps you.
Peace!

Welcome home!

Remember, the Church has been around for 2,000 years; there is a phenomenal amount of written material, and it can get a bit confusing, particularly if you find a reference to something which in turn refers to other things.

Good question! And if you find there are more questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Remember if you need to find any of the documents that the Catechism refers to, they are all online for free here:

I hope you find the truth, that Jesus is alive and His Church on Earth will prevail until His return.
Peace!
