Question about the ESV Psalms Only

I have read the questions about Catholics using the ESV and the ensuing debate, rants and firestorms. My question is regarding just the ESV Psalms. Would it be a good translation for Catholics to use?

The reason I ask is because I long to carry the Psalms in my back pocket to use during the day, but my main Bible RSV-2CE does not come that small and no pocket exists that is big enough to carry their “pocket size” NT/Psalms which I also own and love except for the size. I also have "My Daily Psalm book which is wonderful except for the arrangement of the Psalms which means I can’t go directly to any Psalm without searching through the index (I like to pray the Psalms straight through from 1 to 150 every month). The Revised Grail Psalter is also too big for my pocket.

However I found a pocket size ESV Psalm book. Out of print but still possible to find.

Considering the Psalms in the RSV-CE are identical to the Protestant RSV, and the fact that the ESV is a revision of the RSV, I’m thinking the Psalms would be OK.

As an interesting (and ironic for me) twist, a modified ESV will be used in a Catholic lectionary – except for the ESV Psalms, since the Revised Grail Psalter already has that job.

So what are your thoughts on just the Psalms of the ESV for Catholic use?
 
I wouldn’t have any problem using them. They are so close to the RSV-2CE, which are my favorite Psalms.

Yes, the US is not going to change from the NAB because the bishops get royalties each time a new lectionary is printed. In Canada the Catholic Church uses the NRSV for their lectionary.

Interestingly, the bishops recently ceased paying royalties to the Catholic Biblical Association for the NAB, so they now have a bigger stake in the success in the NAB than ever.
