What is the actual fast supposed to be? Is it one hour before receiving or one hour before Mass? I have been under the assumption that it’s recieving so if that’s the case you really only need to not eat during Mass and the fifteen minutes or so before it starts. That doesn’t really sound right though. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

According to the USCCB website, the Church requires everyone to fast before receiving the Body and Blood of Christ as a sign of reverence (unless illness prevents one from doing so). In the Latin Church, one must generally fast for at least one hour.

So, one hour before receving, not one hour before Mass.
