Question about The First Five Saturdays Devotion

Hello!

I have a couple of questions about First Five Saturdays.

1. First question is about the process. Confession, Communion, Rosary, Meditation 15 mins

Does it have to be in that order to fulfill devotion? I would probably do: Confession, Rosary, Communion, Meditation 15 minutes before Blessed Sacrament after Vigil Mass.

1. 2nd question. Am I still supposed to go to Sunday Mass the next day if I went to the Vigil Mass as part of the First Five Saturdays process?

The Vigil Mass fulfills your Sunday obligation.

In Sr Lucia’s notebooks, we find the following locution with the Blessed Virgin:

“Look, my daughter, at my Heart encircled by these thorns with which men pierce it at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, strive to console me, and so I announce: I promise to assist at the hour of death with the grace necessary for salvation all those who, with the intention of making reparation to me, will, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, go to confession, receive Holy Communion, say five decades of the beads, and keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary.”

I am by no means an expert, but I’ve never heard of any devotion or indulgence that was so precise on the sequence of actions. Nearly all allow for some leeway (such as confessing within a time period of days before/after indulgenced work).

As has been answered, your attendance at an evening Mass on Saturday does fulfill the Sunday obligation (though it’s not properly called ‘vigil’ Mass most of the time).

The Vigil Mass fulfills your Sunday obligation.

Vigil mass can also be used as a Saturday mass, if you want to, like for a 1st Saturday devotion, however that means that you then must go to mass on Sunday to fulfill your Sunday mass obligation.

There is no time limit, such as it must be done in the morning or afternoon, once past 5:00 it doesn’t count. Any mass you attend during the 24 hours of a Saturday counts for 1st Saturday devotion.

No it does not have to be in order.

If you wish to receive a plenary indulgence, for instance if you said your Rosary in the Church (pretty sure that’s one, but double check me on that) then say your prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father and the rest of the things that you did to fulfill your 1st Saturday requirements will also cover a plenary indulgence, however, the prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father are not required for the 1st Saturday devotions, at least as far as I know.

Finally the meditation does not have to be in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

That’s what I thought about the Mass. It’s a double header for Masses on the first weekend unless you attened a daily Mass offered on Saturday.

Good to know the elements don’t have to be in order. Once Vigil Mass is over the church doors are closed at my parish generally within a half hour so there wouldn’t be time to complete the rest of the devotion before the Blessed Sacrament.
