Is there any reason a significant other would be listed unless that person will soon be engaged to petitioner?

OP, I’ll say here what I said on another thread
Leave Canon Law to canon lawyers.

The vast majority of speculation on such circumstances, especially on the Internet, is incorrect or misleading, IMO.
Ask your pastor or canonical advocate for advice here, not random strangers .

In general, if someone is listed as a witness, then they have been given to the tribunal by either the petitioner or respondent as a witness who has information pertinent to the investigation.

For more information than that, the petitioner or respondent would need to ask the tribunal officials through proper channels such as the advocate, etc.

I can only speak to my husband’s experience as he went through the nullity process. (His first marriage was found to be invalid and we are sacramentally married.) On the initial investigation form, he was asked if he was dating with a view to marriage. He had to include my name and address, as well as my marital status (I was single, never married). The tribunal didn’t ask, but there is the potential they may have wanted to interview me.

Forms vary from Diocese to Diocese. Speak to your Advocate.

Thank you for that reply. My boyfriend mentioned he had to list me, and I didn’t exactly understand the reason. Being interviewed was my 1st concern, although I don’t have any secrets to hide. I was married before, but my husband died 3 years ago.
God bless

Was the nullification process long? I understand it can vary, but just trying to see if there is a typical timeframe?

It is not a “nullification process”, the Tribunal conducts an investigation into a marriage to determine if the consent at the wedding was valid or if it was defective. If it is found to have been defective, the Tribunal issues a Decree of Nullity.

They do not make a marriage null, they investigate. Your boyfriend’s marriage may be found to be valid. This is why it is wise to avoid forming romantic bonds with someone who is not free to marry.
