Question about the rosary

I have just started reading about how the rosary prayers work and i had a few questions.
  1. Can i use a interactive rosary app to pray the rosary since i do not have an actual rosary? I’m loking to get one but I’m currently broke
2)Should i speak the rosary outloud or is it ok to say it in my head?

3)Im currently still memorizing some of the prayers. Is it ok to stop in the middle of it because i have to read the prayer?
  1. Where can i get a cheap or free rosary from? All the ones I’ve found are atleast $20 and up.
  2. can i say prayers for people and myself using the rosary?

Of course you can pray the rosary using an app. 👍

You can also pray the rosary for yourself or for others. I tend to have a list ready before with all of my intentions. I either state all of the intentions before I start praying the rosary or after I state the mystery for the decade I am praying. There are no etched in stone rules about when to state your rosary intentions.

You can get a rosary free at the website below. All you have to do is send $2.00 to cover the postage costs. I have had this rosary for several years now and they are a strong metal link rosary with plastic beads that can take alot of rough handling without breaking. They come in different colors that you can choose from.

Either way, if I am in group, I pray aloud. Alone? I pray in my head.

Yes, it is okay. There are people that have been Catholic all of their lives and still read the prayers.

Check with your parish. Many parishes have a ministry that makes rosaries. They can give one to you. Also, if your parish has a gift or book store, ask if they have an inexpensive rosary.

I know I have a few “free” rosaries or ones that would only cost a dollar or two, that I regularly give away.

You can pray the rosary out loud (usually with a group) or you can say it in your head; either way is fine. You can stop to review the prayers but,having all the prayer out in front of you, before hand, will help cut down the time spent looking for it. Rosaries come in all different sizes and prices, you should be able to find one at your local Catholic bookstore for less than $10.00; I have several plastic ones for .79 cents each. You can pray the rosary for anyone, including yourself. I contacted The Mary Foundation online and they sent me a free rosary CD; it helps me to stay focused on the prayer.

Sure, you can use an app.

I actually like to use a Rosary booklet or leaflet that has prayers and pictures in it, when I pray the Rosary. It helps me to stay focused. You can find these at a Catholic bookstore in your area, if you are interested in using something like this too, some time.

You can pray the Rosary out loud, or quietly in your head.

You can certainly pray for yourself and for others–whatever prayer intentions you might have.

You can also pray it in church with others, too. That is a great way of praying it too, with a group of others in church. Some parishes will have a Rosary group that will meet to pray the Rosary out loud before Mass, for example.

Also, you can usually find Rosaries of all different price ranges at your local Catholic book store, too. I have some very inexpensive ones that I paid a few dollars for.

As someone else mentioned, check your local parish for free Rosaries, too. I have seen them put out in the back of the church sometimes, for people to take for free…

  1. Yeah there is nothing wrong with a rosary app. There are a lot of good ones online or in the app store. If you want a real rosary, you can google “free rosary” and places will send you one with info on how to pray it for nothing, not even postage.
  2. It is okay to say it out loud, mouth the words, or say it in your head. As long as you are praying! 😃
  3. Before I learned to pray the rosary, I just read the prayers while saying it. You can take as long as you need to pray the rosary and read the prayers.
  4. As in #1, just google “free rosary” and a ton of places will send an inexpensive one to you. It may not be high quality or anything but it is still a rosary and still prayable! Ask your parish priest or someone for a rosary as well. Anyone at your parish can probably hook you up with a rosary.
  5. Place as many intentions as you need on the prayer of the rosary. The Blessed Virgin will hear and answer them.

  1. You can use the app. I encourage it because it will help you learn the rosary faster.
  2. You can recite the rosary out loud or in your mind. Which ever works for you. I usually pray it with my brother so that I can meditate better.
  3. This is not a problem. I am a recent convert to the Catholic Faith, so I needed the prayers for the rosary in front of me when ever I would recite it.
  4. I actually have a few rosaries 😃 but you can find some really cheap ones at the hispanic store (I’m hispanic so I should know).
  5. Definitely say prayers for yourself and others. Mary always answers petitions asked for through her Most Holy Rosary.
Great questions! And I suggest that you keep praying the rosary daily.

  1. Most likely there is a “Rosary Makers’ Ministry” at your parish or at a nearby one. Each member might like to make a different kind of Rosary. What some do is to make the link Rosary to sell in order to “earn” money to buy the materials for the Mission Rosaries. Many do make the cord Rosary (cord with plastic beads, Crucifix without a centerpiece) to send to the Missions because they are much lighter than the ones with metal links, Crucifix, and centerpiece and therefore less expensive to ship. In addition, since there is no metal, there is less risk that the recipient at the Missions would be assaulted for the Rosary. If there is no such ministry at your parish, the Pastor might know who makes Rosaries.
Even though they are cord Rosaries, they do last for years if made correctly. Each Rosary takes about 20 minutes of work and some 12 hours for the nail polish 😃 to completely dry (prevents the final knots from coming apart).

Do not ever be afraid of asking! That is the only way we learn. :clapping: 👍

I am pretty sure i will be initiated this coming Easter 2014. I joined RCIA in November so i am hoping to receive the sacraments. I am longing to receive them and to be a full member in the Church. I am pretty well knowledgeable in our faith and study it for hours at night so that i know i will be fully catestized(spelling) by the Easter vigil. I pray everynight that i may receive the sacraments coming soon. God bless you Headingbackhome and everyone

  1. etsyDotcom. Look for knotted rosaries. ~5$ hand made by a lady.
  2. i believe those are the Prayer Intentions. I do so for at the beginning of te rosary for souls in purgatory, reparation to the immaculate heart of mary, neccessary graces to avoid sin and occasions of sin, and nothing specific but just the vanilla “temporal and spiritual needs”. I recently had a primo undergo a heart surgery and i threw that into the mix aswell.
  3. yes, feel free memorize the prayers in chunks. Refer to the booklet as you need to.
  4. you can feel free to say the hail marys in your head, but keep in mind that you need to have an image of the mystery in your mind to focus on. That is the toughest part for everyone, including the saints.
  5. yes, you can pray along with an app. The object, or the matter, or the material thing is the rosary. Its used to keep track of your counting. You can use your fingers if you wanted to.

Until you get one just use your fingers to count. The Rosary is split into decades and you have 10 fingers. That’s what I do if I forget to take my Rosary with me when I go out but want to pray it.
