Happy June everyone!

I’d really like to begin praying the Rosary every day, as I think it’s a beautiful devotion, one which I feel very much drawn to.

However, is it absolutely necessary to kneel the entire time? For some reason, I get really sick to my stomach if I kneel for more than 5 minutes at a time. The way that I’ve prayed it best in the past is sitting up straight, cross-legged on the floor, with my CD of meditative soothing music in my ears to block out noise so I can really focus.

Obviously, I have no wish to be disrespectful to God or to Our Lady. But if I kneel the whole time, I rush through it and can’t concentrate much.

Thanks for your help! 🙂

You don’t have to kneel to pray the Rosary or even the Liturgy of the Hours (if you are doing it at home). My dh and I like to pray the Rosary when we take a long trip in the car (some pray it driving to/from work). We certainly can’t be kneeling then. St. Teresa of Avila advised praying in any way that won’t distract you from prayer, so if sitting on the floor does it for you, that’s perfectly fine. Me, I sit in my recliner with a cat in my lap. 😉

Oh, okay! That’s certainly a relief. I’ll begin tonight, finally.

Thank you so much!!!

God and Our Lady will hear you just as well and appreciate your prayers (except the Mass, of course - since that’s public prayer and worship) equally whether you pray kneeling, standing, sitting, lying in bed as I often do.

I either lie down or sit at the side of the bed facing my shrine (with my crosses, statues, etc.) I don’t think it’s disrespectful.

I sit with my back against the headboard of the bed. Sometimes I pray at night when we are getting ready to go to sleep. Other times I pray the rosary as i’m working in my yard.
You don’t have to kneel to pray. I’m sure God and our Mother will not be picky. 🙂
Just pray. 🙂

You can even pray when walking outside on the street, in the hallway at work, etc … 🙂

Lots of people, including saints, have said they said the Rosary in bed at night as kids. Of course, the problem is that you tend to fall asleep before you finish! 🙂

That’s the time I pray the rosary too. Someone said the angels finish it if you fall asleep.

I pray the rosary while out walking all the time. The other day I prayed it while waiting at the DMV! lol My intention was for tennaged drivers!

The Rosary is a private devotion.and really no single way in which it is to be said.

Though, the Apostolic Letter, ROSARIUM VIRGINIS MARIAE bring us some important point to contemplate…

That is very thoughtful of you. The hardest part is to keep our thought of God throughout the day. To be able to pray whenever and wherever we can will help us think of Him more.

The only time that I kneel for the Rosary is in Adoration, but otherwise I usually sit and pray my Rosary. I have been know to also pray it at the gym on the stair climb, in the dentist office during my cleaning, in the car, just about anywhere.

Congratulations on your Confirmation! 🙂

The Rosary is not only a beautiful prayer, but a very powerful prayer. When in Church I kneel when I say the Rosary, when I say the Rosary before bed I kneel. I have about a 35 minute drive to work with almost no traffic so I say the Rosary every morning on my way to work and on the way home I say the Divine Mercy Chaplet. It is a wonderful way to spend the time in the car, that I used to waste by daydreaming.

I’ve been praying the Rosary every day for more than a year. But my biggest breakthrough recently has been to start praying the Rosary in the bathtub – because there I am generally unhurried and not distracted. I pray after washing myself. And I use a bubble bath so it doesn’t dry out my skin to soak in the tub so long. I also have a nice sized bathtub, so it is comfortable.

Praying at least one Rosary each day in an unhurried and undistracted (and comfortable) situation has led me to use my imagination much more. And this has been very interesting.

My wife and I sit in comfortable chairs with the phone and TV turned off while praying the Rosary. Our dogs (three golden retrievers) are allowed on the couch - next to me, and I pet them while praying. I think they like it as much as we do!
