My wife and I recently starting attending a new Church. First visit, it was AWESOME! warm and friendly. We both loved it, good sermon, good overly warming people. But, I have two issues:

First, the Tabrenacle here isn’t up where the priest does his sermons, by the altar, or when Jesus’ Body is transformed. It’s in another room, where Eucharist Adoration takes place. When time for the Eucharist, His boady and blood are taken from this spot and brought out for the changing. Is this ok? My mother-in-law thinks things such as these are not proper. What does the Church say?

Second, there is no kneeling during the Presence of the Lord at communion, rather, all stand. Is this ok’d by the Church also?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks and God bless.

A lot of modern churches are this way. I don’t personally like it, but from all i’ve heard it meets the standards.

If approved by the bishop for reasons of hardship or other extenuating factors, people may stand instead of kneel. HOWEVER, this is an approval for an exception, which means no one can force you NOT to kneel. Perhaps this would be an opportunity for you to show an unceasing example 🙂

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks and God bless.

But WHY is it allowed in modern churches? The Tabrenacle being removed from the altar area? Do you have any info?

I believe the regulations of the church state that the tabernacle needs to be placed in a position of honor from which it can be seen and given respect by parishoners. A chapel open to the public seems to meet that criteria.

Then again, I moved recently and don’t have much of the items for my bookshelf unpacked, so someone will have to quote actual canon for you later…

Yes, this is permitted in churches that have a lot of “tourist” traffic and weddings and funerals several times a week. The Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle can be in a separate chapel. This is to allow people to come and pray before the tabernacle without being disturbed by all the activity in the main church. I don’t know where you are located, but in the US we are to kneel from the Sanctus to the Great Amen, the Bishop can ask us to stand from the Great Amen to when we return from receiving Holy Communion, we may then stand, sit or kneel as we wish.

We attended st. Bridgets in Copake Ny today, first time. And yes, NO ONE kneels there, at ANY given point. They all stood during the changing of the Body and Blood, only my wife knelt. I felt, weird, unsure, at firs t I thought this just may have been another way of respect or worship, standing with your head bowed in the Presence of God. But it strikes me weird that no one kneels. I mean…why not?

Yes, the Tabrenacle is located in a chapel as you first walk in. I’m not sure if the Church has lots of activities, it seemed like it could from all the tracks, room, and things.

I found this link interesting on This Rock:catholic.com/thisrock/1999/9901fea1.asp

If I’m not mistaking, it says we shouldn’t take Communion by the hand.
