My nephew/godson was baptized in the traditional rite (by two diocesan priests in New York, both versed in the Extraordinary form, and one old enough to have performed many baptisms under the old rite) and this was not done.So I just watched this video of a SSPX baptism, and the entire thing is pretty cool but after he pours the water on the baby’s he carries them up to the tabernacle, is this a part of the baptism they took away? What was the reason for this? I am just curious!

You’re right that it’s not part of the rite and therefore should be done afterward which was the case in the video. This is some form of addition or accretion that should be done outside of the rite (if at all), not in the middle, even if it is a pious tradition. Traditionalists don’t get to change the Rites any more than modernists do.

I wasn’t at the baptism, but I recall my mother telling of my twin sisters being dedicated to Mary in a similar ceremony after their baptism some 65 years ago.It could be one of two things: Either the consecration of the newborn to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary in which the child is set upon the altar and consecrated to God and Our Lady . . .%between%
