Question about vasectomy?

Hi, I was hoping that some of you fine people will be able to help me with a worry that has been nagging at me for the past year.

I am coming into the church at Easter, Baptism included so I understand that all of my previous sins will be forgiven.

However, Around 8 years ago I underwent a vasectomy.

At the time, as I wasnt a Catholic I never realised that this was a sin, So I dont believe that I am in a state of mortal sin.

But, what I am unsure about is that Once I am baptised and my original sin of undergoing the vasectomy is forgiven, I will still be sterilised, so does that mean I will be recomitting a sin?

And as I now Know that Sterilisation is a grave matter. does that mean That I will be in a state of Mortal sin ?:confused:

Both myself and my wife deeply regret that I underwent this operation, as we have both yearned for another child ever since, but A reversal is just not financially viable even if there was the remotest chance of success after all these years.

Please help!!!
 
No. You will not be “recomitting a sin” or committing any sin at all. Be at peace.
 
Baptism cleanses of ALL sin. You will be in a wonderful state of grace after your Baptism! Welcome home and be at peace.

No, it does not mean you will be recommitting a sin. It means that you will be in a position to tell others how much you regret your decision and how your experience shows that Church teaching is right.

God takes the sins of our past and brings good from them. Sometimes our experience of God’s forgiveness and mercy allows us to bring more compassion to others. Or sometimes others can learn from our mistakes. One of the great pro-life heroes around where I live is a woman who had an abortion in her youth. Her sin has led to a life of courage and self-sacrifice.

Be at peace. Know that you are forgiven. Know that God is more powerful than the evil we do and He will bring about good through this circumstance.
 
You are under no requirement to have surgery to “fix” the vasectomy.

Congrats on making it so far through the RCIA, and just relax and enjoy the rest of the process.

Now, more seriously: are you going to quite supporting Rangers and start supporting Celtic?😃
 
Been there, done that, came down the same road, asked the same questions, etc.

The previous posters have it right. All will be well, and you do not have to go the route of attempting a reversal. Just be open to life – God has been known to have a strange sense of humor where supposedly sterile couples are concerned. Just ask Abraham and Sarah . . . Zechariah and Elizabeth 😃

If it bothers you, there is an exercise you and your wife can adopt and practice…and it’s not required by any means…just a suggestion. I had never really thought about it until I read Patrick Coffin’s “Sex Au Naturel”. Toward the end he addresses exactly this issue. Allow me to quote directly form the source:

“So what about men (and women) [sic] who confess the sin of sterilization, yet truly cannot have the reversal?..
…The best pastoral advice combines common sense with mature Christian spirituality. It is this: that the couple chooses to model their sex life after the same cycle of enjoyment-then-abstinence that fertile couples adopt when using NFP. This monthly time of abstinence (several days per month) [sic] is embraced as a pledge to the Lord that their rejection of the contraceptive mentality is sincere and permanent…
…The bottom line is that deep and lasting repentance is possible after…sterilization, even if no steps are taken toward a reversal…” (Sex Au Naturel, p. 108)

And did you really just use the word Retarded?
 
Even though you had a vasectomy before you were Catholic and all that, you will not be “cut off” from the community. :nope:
