This is absolutely normal in the Moscow Patriarchal liturgy, especially here at the cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow, particularly on a major feast day.

There will probably be a dozen or so bishops beside the patriarch, maybe twenty or more priests; it looks as though there are at least eight deacons serving, probably as many or more subdeacons. Several hundred laity will be receiving Communion. Often there will be even more (bishops, priests, deacons, subdeacons, laity - even more than one patriarch if one is visiting!)!

The contents of the chalice will be divided between ten or a dozen or so smaller chalices and several bishops and priests will then administer to the laity.

In addition, there is a newly-ordained priest, ordained at this liturgy, who is given a portion of the consecrated Lamb and instructed by the patriarch that he will be responsible for the Body and Blood of Christ.

Thanks! 👍 Now that you mention it, the giant chalice also shows up in another video.

I know a little Russian and I think - I might be wrong and correct me if I am - the description of the video talks about Patriarch Kirill of Moscow attending the DL of St Basil at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. If that is the case I think that is the type of DL that rowlands meant when he said:

😉

And I know it has nothing to do with the post but I love the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, I hope to visit one day! 😃

This second video is an extract from the Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great celebrated on Holy and Great Thursday; it focuses primarily on the consecration of the Holy Chrism prepared for use in the Russian Church and its dependencies. Again, the location is the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow
