Well, we all know that watching human pornography is most definately a grave manner.

But what about watching animals mating? If one was to watch videos of animals mating (with no real reason to do so, just because.) would this be a grave matter?

Just curious!! Thank you!

ummmm…I should think that the question would be, is it a turn on for you? I mean, if it’s not causing you to become aroused or start thinking of your own “mating rituals” then I don’t really see the problem.

If it is, you might consider therapy. 😛

I think it would boil down to why you are doing it. From a scientific standpoint it would be OK. From a sexual purient angle it would horrific.

You need to be honest with yourself.

‘No real reason’? To do so you have to make a conscious choice. It’s not like you switch on the tv and every other channel has shows of animals mating whether you like it or not. It’s something you have to seek out.

So there’s definitely a reason behind your doing so. The question is why. Curiosity? What are you curious about? Unless you’re a scientist, vet, farmer or some such the only reason would be sexual prurience, almost certainly.

Having said that, depending on the person’s level of self-awareness or denial (and someone who says they do such a thing ‘just because’ is very possibly in denial and really does know the reason) it can indeed be a grave sin.

I think people haven’t considered something. Considering she is a teenager, what she means is out of curiousity. Don’t act all saintly here people, you know at some point all of you have had some curiosity in animals mating. I don’t mean that in a ‘that turns me on sense’ but watch a small child if there happens to be some animal mating going on.

However you have to be careful with these things too OP…

I’m not a saint by any means but I can honestly put my hand over my heart and say that to the very best of my knowledge I’ve never ever been curious about animals mating.

My parents are both doctors and I have four older sisters, so I’ve been pretty well educated about the facts of life (in an age appropriate way, of course) from an early age, and I think that might be why.

That’s good, at the same time though for a teenager or anyone for that matter to get curious about animal mating isn’t a big deal. Considering the scientists in that field are legion, ‘interesting’ doesn’t mean it’s necessarily wrong. It’s what the motive is.

If you are doing it to get turned on, then it’s a problem. I acknowledge however that there could be a very thin line between the two.

I think that Vets and scientists probably have to watch it, otherwise its just plain wierd.

That said the church doesnt consider it a grave sin to have homosexual attractions, merely to act upon them. This is probably the same kettle

Nu-uh. Knowingly watching any sort of film for purposes of arousal IS acting upon your ‘attraction’ to such and is indeed a grave sin.

I do not want to disgust you, but do you know about bestiality? This is not about animals mating, but about a human and an animal mating. And it is widespread on the internet.

I’m curious to know if the Bible says something about bestiality

Heard of it, and I’m SURE that it is something that God doens’t want to see.

Almost certainly **NOT!!! **

That seems an extremely presumptious remark to me. There’s absolutely nothing wrong, in my opinion, with normal healthy human curiosity about the natural world around us…

I’ve watched tons of David Attenborough’s natural history documentaries. Truely amazing stuff… through his work he has brought to millions of viewers the habitats, behaviours and rituals (including mating rituals) of the worlds most extrodinary and beautiful animals and birds - we get to see things we would never ever see in a lifetime and get to appreciate more fully God’s glorious creation.

I can think of several memorable programmes, an hour long, where the viewer is left in awe - and the mating ritual covered lasted all of about 30 seconds. Nothing sexually prurient about the programme at all.

I agree with you, I’m sure He doesn’t want to see deviant sexual behaviors. However, I’d like to know if there is something specifically said about bestiality. Even our laws forbid this.

Lev 18:23: "Thou shalt not copulate with any beast, neither shalt thou be defiled with it. A woman shall not lie down to a beast, nor copulate with it: beacuse it is a heinous crime’’.

The OP sounded like they were talking about videos that were entirely or primarily about animals mating (or were watching entirely or primarily out of interest just about that particular topic). Even if that isn’t what they meant, it’s certainly what I meant.

If the video is about, or your interest is in, the lives and habits of animals more generally and not focusing particuarly on their mating, then it’s fine of course.
