When I was younger and in Catholic grade school the “What Would Jesus Do” bracelets became very popular and I had one, along with all of my friends from school. For some reason recently I decided that I really wanted to buy one again, even though it has been 12 or more years since I last had one of those bracelets.
I am wondering if I should still get one, because the only place I can seem to find one if at the Lifeway Christian Store. This store only seems to sell Christian- not Catholic anything. So I am just wondering if I should go and buy the bracelet or not. I have nothing wrong with walking into the store, but my mom doesn’t seem to like it because the things inside are mostly Protestant teachings, which I guess doesn’t really matter if I am just buying a bracelet.

I don’t want to sound mean or ignorant, sorry if I happened to come off that way. I am just curious! Thank you!!🙂

you can shop any where you want for anything you want as long as what you are buying is not immoral in any way

is there some reason why someone has made you think it would be wrong to shop here?

Although I think those bracelets are tacky, in lieu of a Catholic store, it’s GREAT to support a chrisitan store. You could probably find one at Walmart, too, but I believe in the spending value of money. You do far more good if you spend it at the Christian store.

That being said, see if the proprieter is open to Catholic goods. Alot of Christian stores around here carry First Communion things as well as Catholic Bibles. Perhaps if Catholics were more accepting of Christians, and Christians were exposed to such things in their shoppettes, then it wouldn’t be such a shock when we say we ARE Christians.

I understand what your mom feels. I used to shop at Lifeway since they had great kids’ stuff that I used as incentives for my CCE classes. But a few years ago, right inside the door was a display of a book called something like “What every Catholic needs to know” which was one of the most horrible anti-Catholic books I have ever seen.

I just could never go back inside after that. 😦 However, if you want to buy your WWJD bracelet there, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. They carry them in our local Catholic bookstore so it may not hurt to check yours first. And they are widely available online.

Father had a sermon against the “WWJD” phenomenon last year and, IIRC, the original Protestant preacher who invented it has also tried to temper it. I am leaving for work so I don’t have a chance to check my recordings but I may have a recording of that sermon (I have dozens).
