I once heard that no sacraments can be performed on Good Friday (with the exception of Last Rites). Is this true…especially regarding Confession and Baptism?

Absolutely false concerning Confession. Mostly true about Baptism.

Read this this question on askfather.net.

Short extract:
The 2002 Missale Romanum at paragraph 1 for Good Friday says: Hac et sequenti die, Ecclesia, ex antiquissima traditione, sacramenta, praeter Paenitentiae et Infirmorum Unctionis, penitus non celebrat… On this and the following day (that means Good Friday and Holy Saturday, the Church, from a most ancient tradition, does not at all celebrate the sacraments, except for (the sacraments) of Penance and Anointing of the Sick”.

Benedictus:
Absolutely false concerning Confession. Mostly true about Baptism.
And there is, of course, an exception for Baptism in cases near death.

If an unhealthy child is born on Good Friday, by all means the hospital chaplin (or the parents) should Baptize the child.

In other years Pope John Paul II spent some time each Good Friday hearing Confessions in Saint Peters.

I’ve heard a lot of stories about last minute convalidations done (both on Good Friday and Holy Saturday) for people in RCIA in order for them to join the Church on Easter Vigil.
