Is it OK for one to publicly burn the rainbow flag as an act of protest against the homosexual agenda, or would such an act be too uncharitable?

Burning the rainbow flag would not be helpful; don’t go there.

I would support it!

There is currently a rainbow flag flying from a neighbor’s balcony in violation of the lease agreement. I am thinking of registering a complaint.

is it ok to burn the american flag in protest? I would never do it, but I don’t know if it is illegal. Yes it would probably be seen as uncharitable to burn a rainbow flag, but I don’t know if it is illegal.

It’s probably officially a hate crime, but I steadfastly support this kind of civil disobedience.

I recommend against this. We might give others the impression that we are terrorists.

What purpose would it serve? It certainly wouldn’t bring anyone over to our side and probably make us look like a bunch of extremists.

Yeah, burning flags doesn’t foster anything but negative feelings. It’s a real shame that so many Catholics are so harsh and abusive toward gay people, because obviously gay people keenly feel every cruel word directed their way. It doesn’t accomplish anything remotely good. What that actually does is drive people away from the Church, and understandably so, when what we should be doing is creating a gentle and non-judgemental atmosphere in the hopes that Church teaching may eventually sink in. And if it doesn’t, it’s not for us to judge.🤷

You’re kidding right?
How do you think that would sway people to your point of view?
People who lash out are always extremely disappointed.
It won’t make anyone stop and think differently.
It will only reinforce the sympathy certain groups enjoy.

Sorry, don’t do it.

My take: yes. We need to be less afraid to call out evil for what it is. That flag represents the perversion of men while the rainbow is suppose to represent the glory and the beauty of God Himself. The rainbow was never meant to represent sodomy, and people honestly struggling with this and seeking the Church am sure are not appalled by such an action of burning a manifestation of evil. When evil is there, we need to call it out, not like brutes, but as Jesus cleansed the Temple with good reason. We MUST condemn sodomy and call people living an openly sodomistic lifestyle to conversion.

Sure burn the rainbow flag, right along side the confederate flag. 🙂

This would be an extremely bad way of combating the issue. It would be widely associated with belligerence & hatred.

The Catholic Church in the post-Roman era - a period not exactly renowned for its warmth & fuzziness - dealt with pagan temples in England by renovating them into Churches, not razing them to the ground.

This kind of reversed iconoclasm - even if the flag does represent an objective evil - is not useful in converting a group of people that views itself to be on the side of compassion. The action would make the other side feel validated in their ways.

I would turn to the pro-life movement if you want effective example of enlightening a population. The focus on the pro-life movement is more-so on the value of life and its charismatic appeal to that part of the human heart & conscience which has not been darkened. It is a force of attraction. And you know what? It seems to be working. This isn’t to say you have a vow of silence over the evils of abortion, but when stating everything that is bad becomes the focal point of your ministry, you lose your attraction. It is interesting to note that Nietzsche, Marx, and Freud were all very vocal in accusing mankind of many evils, and yet St JPII points out how lacking they were in offering any solution.

Now that the Supreme Court has yet again opened the door to another evil, I think as Catholics we will need to look to our successes in the pro-life movement as the model to nourishing the sanctity of marriage as well. That’s the focal point: sacred, beautiful, blessed marriage & family.

The rainbow flag means equality for all. It doesn’t mean ‘I condone homosexual acts’.

Flag-burning first, where next? Book-burning?

No, its perversion of God’s symbol of his covenant that was hijacked to celebrate a lifestyle that is an abomination.

Its not about equality for all.

I don’t think when the rainbow was adopted as the symbol of the LGBT community it was done to hijack anything or to deliberately offend those of faith. It’s simply every shade, every colour and was also used by peace activists. The Wiki article on the origins of the rainbow flag is very informative.

With that, we should reclaim the rainbow image. Instead of just burning the flag, create one with an image of Our Lord’s suffering on it. He owns the rainbow - and He’s certainly suffering to see how it is misused.

God built the rainbow diversity of life through marriage - One Man, One Woman.

That would be a good slogan to put on the flag in big letters - if it was a little shorter and catchier. 🙂 Eventually, we should reclaim that image. The word ‘gay’ also has been misused as an identifier of people. It’s actually an insulting term to use for people with homosexual attractions – making them seem silly, foolish, unserious - like fops.

If anything, it would make the militants on the other side even more militant.

I wouldn’t do it, but if you must burn a flag, burn an ISIS flag!
