Question/Discussion on Rev. 1:6 & 1 Peter 2:5,9

1 Peter 2: (4 He is the living stone, rejected by human beings but chosen by God and precious to him; set yourselves close to him) 5 so that you, too, may be living stones making a spiritual house as a holy priesthood to offer the spiritual sacrifices made acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. … 9 But you are a chosen race, a kingdom of priests, a holy nation, a people to be a personal possession to sing the praises of God who called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Revelation 1: (5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the First-born from the dead, the highest of earthly kings. He loves us and has washed away our sins with his blood,) 6 and made us a Kingdom of Priests to serve his God and Father; to him, then, be glory and power for ever and ever. Amen

In the Old Testament, only the priests could minister before the altar and only the High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies, and then only once a year.

Now, it is Jesus, our Great High Priest, Who offered the supreme Sacrifice for us, once and for all, and our priests (clergy) who offer His sacrifice daily on our altars.

If the phrases “holy priesthood” and a “kingdom of priests” refer to all the faithful, how do Catholics who are not members of the clergy participate in this “priesthood” to which these Scripture verses refer? How is our “priesthood” expressed? How do we serve God as priests (Rev. 1:6) ?

As Catholics we are members of the Body of Christ-so we may offer spiritual sacrifices to God through this Body.
And as such we participate in the Kingly Priesthood of Jesus.
(Again I have to plead ignorance of our Orthodox / Eastern
Church-so no intentional slighting)
We can also offer up physical sacrifices, and join them with our Lord’s ultimate sacrifice-His Passion and Death-
The Holy Mass is the greatest Prayer of thanksgiving, sacrifice and worship that we can participate in.

This is why we as Catholics are able to help bring the non-catechized, the unbelievers, and members of other religions to God THROUGH the Body of Jesus-God has given us a special, wonderful share in the conversion of sinners.

When we give up our own wills to do the will of God, Jesus works through our words and our actions.

Catholics should try to earn indulgences as frequently as possible, to aide in the salvation of souls.

keep you searching for why this is so-A chat with a Holy Priest is always fruitful too. Mostly, just ask the Holy Spirit for guidance-He loves to impart His Wisdom-esp when one is making a heartfelt Way of The Cross (Stations of The Cross)
