For me it isn’t the bible even through I think it’s true it isn’t how God has worked in my life even though he has it is modern catholic miricles such as a host that turned to blood at a parish near my home (holy family seattle) the fact that the fabric of our lady of Guadalupe should have rotted away 100’s of years ago and hasn’t, the Eucharist bread in sienna has lasted 300+ years I really could go on and on for hours about catholic miracles in the modern age. They are extremely tangible.
When I was an agnostic or as a child I had never heard of any of these I viewed the bible really no different than any other “holy” book and I could see how athiest could live good and pretty holy lives.
What makes you believe jesus is God
The fact that Jesus was a real historical Person (that even non-christians from the first century acknowedged existed & died on a cross) Who proclaimed to be God, & backed up what He claimed from bodily rising from the dead. The proof of this is on that first Easter Sunday, His corpse that “should” have been in the sealed tomb was gone, which was eyewitnessed by individuals who were just hiding behind closed doors, because they were afraid for their lives, because the Man Who they trusted to save them died. Then, they suddenly began spreading the Gospel, proclaiming His bodily resurrection, which proved that He conquered sin, the Devil, & death, even in the face of intense torture & excruciating death. Had they not eyewitnessed this & they
knew it was a lie, they wouldn’t have endured any of that. People don’t rise from the dead on their own. Jesus did after being dead for 3 days, after being brutalized & having His heart and/or lung(s) punctured by that spear, which proves He is God. That is all the proof I need to believe Jesus is God.
But the other question I had was - what about the Father who Jesus talked about? What if the Father is actually not the God of the whole, entire universe, but the God only of our planet Earth? Would that also strike a devastating blow to your faith? Have Christians ever considered that possibility?
Since you’re referring to the God & Jesus of Scripture, you also have to take into account several very important passages:
Matthew 28:19 & 2 Corinthians 13:14 that describes the concept of the Trinity (One God, but 3 “Persons” of the Godhead - not 3 “gods”)
John 1:1,14 “In the beginning the Word was with God & the Word was God. And the Word became flesh & dwelt among us.” - John acknowledges that is actually the One & Only true God
John 8:58 - Jesus acknowledged that He is the One & Only true God by referring to Himself as “I AM” - the Name of the One & Only true God from the OT (Exodus 3:14, see also John 10:30-33)
In addition to the dozens, even hundreds, of Scripture verses that support that Jesus is the One & Only true God, consider this argument for why Christians believe that Jesus is the One & Only true God:
The fact that Jesus was a real historical Person (that even non-christians from the first century acknowedged existed & died on a cross) Who proclaimed to be God, & backed up what He claimed by bodily rising from the dead. The proof of this is on that first Easter Sunday, His corpse that “should” have been in the sealed tomb was gone, which was eyewitnessed by individuals who were just previously hiding behind closed doors, because they were afraid for their lives, because the Man Who they trusted to save them died. Then, they suddenly began spreading the Gospel, proclaiming His bodily resurrection, which proved that He conquered sin, the Devil, & death, even in the face of His disciples experiencing intense torture & excruciating death. Had they not eyewitnessed this & they knew it was a lie, they wouldn’t have endured any of that. People don’t rise from the dead on their own.
