I don’t understand why you would think that of a God, who manages the evolution of billions of human souls as well as trillions of plants and animals, as a weak God! Some day very soon the truth about who is the Father, who is the Son and who is Jesus will be revealed.
That has already happened. That is why we have the Christian faith. Jesus, himself, came and dwelt among us. What further revelation do you seek?

Also, I am curious as to why you believe this revelation will come “Some day very soon”.
The truth, if slightly different from what you believe, should not destroy your faith, it should make it stronger, because Christianity is not just about these three personalities but about how you should live your life.
Christianity is fundamentally about our need to be saved from our sins. Jesus didn’t come to simply show us how to live a good life. He came to save us; to unite us once again with God. He has defeated sin and death through his passion, death and resurrection. His return will be the end of human history; the final judgment of the living and the dead.

Peace.

Steve

in my 6 years as a member of a covenant community, I would say that Jesus is our God of Salvation

For me it isn’t the bible even through I think it’s true it isn’t how God has worked in my life even though he has it is modern catholic miricles such as a host that turned to blood at a parish near my home (holy family seattle) the fact that the fabric of our lady of Guadalupe should have rotted away 100’s of years ago and hasn’t, the Eucharist bread in sienna has lasted 300+ years I really could go on and on for hours about catholic miracles in the modern age. They are extremely tangible.

When I was an agnostic or as a child I had never heard of any of these I viewed the bible really no different than any other “holy” book and I could see how athiest could live good and pretty holy lives.

What makes you believe jesus is God
Because he said as much
John 10:30
John 1:14
His early followers believed it
Philippians 2:6-8
Hebrews 1:6
John 20:26-28
This is why I still accept Jesus is God. The reason I believe he is God, is because of this: He is. No one dies for something that is “just bread” (which sadly comes out of the mouths of Catholics, occasionally), no one is going to risk their life to proclaim a myth is God. No one is going to be crucified, poisoned, pierced with a lance, or beheaded for a falsehood. These all believed he is God, and they all suffered for it. These people saw it. 2 Peter 116:18

For me, it is quite subjective, as it is based upon first, the Word of God (Jesus) and the joy that I have in my life from following Him. When I first was baptized and confirmed in my early 20’s my life changed dramatically - I had joy where once I had nothing. He has lead me and carried me throughout my good times and my trying times.f

I have also had a couple major decisions in my life made based on throwing out a fleece to Him. The first time was answered within a few minutes and it was a MAJOR sign…the other few were not so quick and deliberate but I’m not in a position now spiritually that I would need a sign.

In the end, it’s faith, pure and simple. He is my All and All! And I thank my Heavenly Father for allowing Him to come down and take our sins on the cross - to go thru that suffering.

As I said, it’s pretty much subjective which include the my tangible experiences thru worship, His Word and the sacraments.

What makes you believe jesus is God
As a child I just knew, maybe the grace of the Holy Spirit, etc.

But as I grew older, the more I thought about it, as a child I thought how could God send his only son to die for us, then as a adult I saw it 2 ways.

God send himself as the Son to DIE for us. Who could love anyone better then that. He could have done so many other things to prove his love. But die for us, the misery and suffering and humiliation he took, for us.

He could have saved us from ourselves any way he wanted, but he died for me, for you, everyone of us. Wow. And then on top of that forgives us, even when we continue to screw up. Who could we hurt more then God, and who loves us just the same, who does not hold a grudge, all forgiving, Oh Jesus, Jesus made human could have only been God, because no human has passed this world ever and had such wisdom, love and kindness.

And the short answer, after all I have read of Jesus, he could not have been anyone BUT God!

Mohammed never performed one miracle. He was never pre-announced by prophecy. In fact, when he is said to have seen Gabriel, he wanted to throw himself off a mountain and commit suicide because God’s messenger disturbed him so. These are not the hallmarks of a true prophet.
Also, when Mohammed died, he died…Jesus rose from the grave…that can’t be said of Mohammed!

For me - Christ it the one who has given me faith.

The old-Adam in me won’t die - I still doubt, I still dis-obey, I still don’t take up my cross.

But through it all, Christ has given me a faith that is as small as a mustard seed and I respond by hearing the Word and receiving the Sacraments.
Amen!!

Such faith is of course admirable, but being an Avatar of God is not minor position - I would say that there is no higher position than that on Earth.

I don’t understand why that is not enough satisfy your faith, that the whole authenticity of the Christian faith depends on Jesus being an actual God. When a person is an Avatar, the power as well as all attributes of the God are manifest in the person - he is no longer just a human being.

But the other question I had was - what about the Father who Jesus talked about? What if the Father is actually not the God of the whole, entire universe, but the God only of our planet Earth? Would that also strike a devastating blow to your faith? Have Christians ever considered that possibility?
The “whole of our Christian faith” depends on God’s plan of salvation which He promised in Genesis 3:15. Even Christ said, “I and the Father are One.” Why believe in an avatar when we have Him in our midst? No, Christ was not simply an “avatar.” He is Fully God, and Fully Man…We have the Word of God - real and alive!! John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God!
:o

Our faith is not based upon what is enough to satisfy us. It is based upon a Person, Jesus Christ, who revealed himself to us. He is who he is; both God the Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and a man.

No. That is not a consideration. We believe that God is the author of all creation, the entire universe and heaven itself. He is all powerful, all-knowing, all-present. He has already revealed himself so we are not worried about finding some weak god who rules over only one planet.

Peace.

Steve
Amen, Steve. Amen!!! 👍

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and** the Word was God.**”
John 1:1

It is not the bible alone that convinces me. It is the tradition of Christianity as a whole and it’s reflection on the meaning of scripture. This tradition which says God loved his creation enough in order to humiliate himself for his creation is what keeps me in Christianity. Other religions cannot match the beauty of that statement, though they try desperately. “Our God loves you, but he doesn’t love you that much to do the impossible.”

I don’t think Jesus is God, I know He is.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word is God.

And folks, when referring to our Holy Bible, please, it is “Bible” with a capital B. You wouldn’t write “gone with the wind” in lower case, would you? Bible - it’s the title of the book.

How could any of that devastate us when it’s not true?? Jesus said many times that He and the Father are one…no one can come to the Father but by me…I will send the Comforter (Holy Spirit). In Genesis God said, “Let us make mankind in our image.” John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God." Christ is not just an Avatar - He is the Savior and Lord of the World.

My question to you is to how can that satisfy you and will you be devastated when you find out that Jesus IS God?? Just sayin’ …

What makes you believe jesus is God
The fact that Jesus was a real historical Person (that even non-christians from the first century acknowedged existed & died on a cross) Who proclaimed to be God, & backed up what He claimed from bodily rising from the dead. The proof of this is on that first Easter Sunday, His corpse that “should” have been in the sealed tomb was gone, which was eyewitnessed by individuals who were just hiding behind closed doors, because they were afraid for their lives, because the Man Who they trusted to save them died. Then, they suddenly began spreading the Gospel, proclaiming His bodily resurrection, which proved that He conquered sin, the Devil, & death, even in the face of intense torture & excruciating death. Had they not eyewitnessed this & they knew it was a lie, they wouldn’t have endured any of that. People don’t rise from the dead on their own. Jesus did after being dead for 3 days, after being brutalized & having His heart and/or lung(s) punctured by that spear, which proves He is God. That is all the proof I need to believe Jesus is God.
But the other question I had was - what about the Father who Jesus talked about? What if the Father is actually not the God of the whole, entire universe, but the God only of our planet Earth? Would that also strike a devastating blow to your faith? Have Christians ever considered that possibility?
Since you’re referring to the God & Jesus of Scripture, you also have to take into account several very important passages:

Matthew 28:19 & 2 Corinthians 13:14 that describes the concept of the Trinity (One God, but 3 “Persons” of the Godhead - not 3 “gods”)

John 1:1,14 “In the beginning the Word was with God & the Word was God. And the Word became flesh & dwelt among us.” - John acknowledges that is actually the One & Only true God

John 8:58 - Jesus acknowledged that He is the One & Only true God by referring to Himself as “I AM” - the Name of the One & Only true God from the OT (Exodus 3:14, see also John 10:30-33)

In addition to the dozens, even hundreds, of Scripture verses that support that Jesus is the One & Only true God, consider this argument for why Christians believe that Jesus is the One & Only true God:

The fact that Jesus was a real historical Person (that even non-christians from the first century acknowedged existed & died on a cross) Who proclaimed to be God, & backed up what He claimed by bodily rising from the dead. The proof of this is on that first Easter Sunday, His corpse that “should” have been in the sealed tomb was gone, which was eyewitnessed by individuals who were just previously hiding behind closed doors, because they were afraid for their lives, because the Man Who they trusted to save them died. Then, they suddenly began spreading the Gospel, proclaiming His bodily resurrection, which proved that He conquered sin, the Devil, & death, even in the face of His disciples experiencing intense torture & excruciating death.
