There’s a related area of study called “genetic programming.” No, it’s not on how programs can get started without human intervention, but it does deal with program evolving in response to their (name removed by moderator)uts/environment. It’s useful in finding solutions to certain types of problems but it’s a brute force approach and can require a lot of execution time on a computer. It’s probably not something that can be fully discussed here since it is intertwined with evolution, another prohibited topic.

you’d have to ask the robots. not one of them believe in the theory that humans created them. the only possible explanation left is that they evolved through natural selection.

Exactly. I could easily see a sophisticated AI compete with m in reciting Hamlet, but not so much in telling why it is such a literary masterpiece, unless it is given what to say.

The soul is that essential part of man that distinguishes him from the rest of the animal kingdom. It is that part of man which mainly carries the “image of God.”
Most theologians believe that the soul is procreated through the parent. Therefore, if that ‘divine dna’ passes from a human mother to the child, then I’d say the kid would have a soul. The father, on the other hand, is an just animal programmed to behave like a human.

I haven’t counted noses but Catholic Theologians believe that the soul is created immediately by God and informed into the body at conception. That is what the Catholic Church teaches. See the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

I don’t know where you got the idea that the father is " just an animal programmed to behave like a human," but the Catholic Church teaches that the first man was not the son of an animal conceived in the normal manner of animals. All the Church teaches beyond that is that the first man was fully human - a rational animal composed of body and soul.

Check the Catechism, it makes for good reading. 👍

What if a male and female android have a kid ? Remember, they are completely identical to humans. The kid would literally have the exact same life and history than a human being. You believe the soul is passed through DNA ? I thought it was given at fecundation ?

its something of a relief actually knowing my robot really has a definite purpose on this planet.

So at what point did we stop being animals and become humans?

Similar question: if we gradually replaced the parts of your brain with circuitry that did exactly the same work, eventually replacing the complete brain, at what point do you cease being human? And does your soul dissapear at some point?
