Question for fellow RCIA directors

I was hoping to find out which Bible translation and/or specific edition you distribute to those in RCIA. We have always used the NAB, but I didn’t know if anyone has begun using the NABRE for RCIA use. I was also interested to see if any of you use a different translation, such as the NRSV-CE or 2nd CE. Thanks in advance for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

On a different note, I’m using the materials from ACM this year for the first time. I have to say I’m quite impressed with the content of the materials.

We provide copies of the NAB to our RCIA participants durings class, since that is what we have available. Our pastor likes to teach his classes using the RSV-CE.

Participants are encouraged to get their own Bibles for home study. Of course, we suggest these be one of the authorized Catholic translations.

My personal favorite for serious study is a Greek-English interlinear version of the New Testament. It has the Greek text with the literal English translation just below it and the RSV English translation in the margins. But it’s a bit advanced for use in RCIA.

ACM is definitely the gold standard, but required highly prepared catechists which thankfully I finally have

we use the NAB because it is still the version approved for liturgy specifically the lectionary. When the revised lectionary comes out I will consider investing in new bibles, but not yet.

puzzleannie - I know what you mean regarding prepared catechists. Unfortunately, you’re looking at the RCIA “team”. Whoever said there’s no “I” in team may have been wrong. At any rate, I’m hoping to live up to the ACM materials, in order to do them justice, more so than them living up to my expectations.
