The recent talks between the Vatican and SSPX has naturally created a lot of buss on the Internet, but it’s hard to find reliable information on the status of the talks because everything is being kept very secret. Since you guys probably hear a lot of “inside” info from your priest and so forth. I was hoping you could fill us in on if the talks are bearing good fruit or if things are stalled. Any info is much appreciated.

The reason I’m curious is because I am very sympathetic to the grievances of the SSPX and I’m praying that your society will be fully reconciled with Holy Mother Church in the near future. The sooner the better!

There are a lot of faithful Catholics out there who fight the good fight and combat the errors of the “spirit” of Vatican II and could use your help. You would be way more valuable to the Church if you were fighting errors from within the Church, instead of on Her fringes.

I don’t mean to sound disrespectful when I say the following, but it needs to be said;

You guys have taken the easy way out by cloistering yourselves in groups of like minded people where everything is safe and cozy. That’s easy and anybody can do that. Try evangelizing the liberal setting next to you in the pew, or correcting the “Catholic” catechist who is teaching Protestant doctrines in a religious education class. That takes a Catholic with real courage and courageous Catholics is something the Church desperately needs right now.

I think the SSPX has a lot to offer the Church and can do a lot of good in correcting the abuses that have taken place over the last forty years. I also think the Holy Father believes this and that is why he has put his neck on the line for you guys.

Have you seen a single sspx person on these boards??? That has to be telling you something, your questions are valid, but none of the audience you are wanting to hear it, are not hearing it here sadly because they are not visiting this place at all.

Actually, I did see someone from SSPX on these boards yesterday. I think it was on one of the threads in the apologetics section. He/she had for their religion "Catholic (SSPX). I was hoping maybe their are others.

Have you heard any news on the status of the talks?

No news on the status of “their” talks, but know the spirit of if on their end is very, very bad and I regularly go toe toe to toe with their split, the sspv, who they still endorse. That latter bunch hides under the guise of sspx, yet bash the Church and our Pope openly. My insight here is that they need to sever ties with one to join with the other, the question is, which one are they going to sever and which one are they going to embrace, for now, their stance is with sspv more then the Catholic church on a real manner, on the public, they are trying to keep this information low key and hush hush. The sad part about it, they think they are justified in their actions based upon history, yet we are not repeating history this time, we as one Catholic church do not need outside nor inside forces to change us, we are doing just fine on our own, the gates of hell have not prevailed and we are making a come back in spite of the secular opposition of late.

You have no idea what you are talking about and you would serve everyone better if you just refrained from posting about things which either you know nothing about or are purposely distorting the facts

I see. So you are coming to an internet mesage board for “accurate” inside information regarding secret talks at the Vatican? Wow…

I personally know several SSPX members on these forums. I even attend their chapels when I’m in the area. As with any group you’ll have your “radicals”, yes, even in the OF parishes.

Yes, I’ve met several SSPX chapel goers who are sedevacantist in their personal philosophy, but SSPX is NOT attached to SSPV or any other sede group. Their adhereance is to the restoration of the Church.

I have no qualms about that at all.

OP: the reason that you’re not getting any responses from so-called “SSPX members” is that there is no such thing as one. You don’t “join” the SSPX, it’s a Priestly fraternity. You can attend Mass at an SSPX chapel but that doesn’t make you a “member” any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

The fact that people want to attribute a weird sort of underground, Masonic “secret-handshake” culture to the SSPX just shows how silly and uninformed so many opinions are.

I very much do, used to host a SSPV web site for many years, talked to the priest that owned the thing on a regular basis. They call themselves SSPX, but they are not, the label SSPV applies to those in the SSPX that consider our current pope an anti-pope, that consider the New mass as not being a legitimate mass, and a number of things within the modern church itself, being invalid. The SSPX that do not hold these beliefs, are allowed to keep their title, but the rest, this is why there is so much turmoil going on with them.

Maurin posts here still from time to time and attends the SSPX. There have been other SSPX attendees that have come and gone. The CAF rules have to be obeyed by all and that has proven difficult for some.

I sometimes attend Mass at an SSPX chapel. The only information that I have on the talks comes from Internet sites that are available to anybody. If you google on SSPX with “friends and benefactors” you will see the sort of things that they are posting. It is not very detailed and rightly so. But please pray for them all. So much good could come out of this.

The talks are secret. If the bishops and priests start telling everybody about it, it’s no longer a secret.

Yeah…cuz the SSPX and the people who attend their chapels don’t do any of that…
You would be way more valuable to the Church if you were fighting errors from within the Church, instead of on Her fringes.
The SSPX is in the Church. Moreover, the people who attend are regular, faithful Catholics just like any other. If the SSPX weren’t right in the middle of the fray why are they reaping so much good in Rome?
You guys have taken the easy way out by cloistering yourselves in groups of like minded people where everything is safe and cozy.
Yeah, because being maligned by 99.9% of Catholicism as nothing but a bunch of ‘schismatics’ out of love for unambiguous Truth, and the souls of our children, and the Church in general is “taking the easy way out”.
That’s easy and anybody can do that.
You think the decision to go to an SSPX church and become one of the eeeeeevil schismatics is easy for anybody? I guess it’s also easy for monks and nuns to be cloistered, to just retreat and take the easy way out, hanging out with like-minded people.
Try evangelizing the liberal setting next to you in the pew, or correcting the “Catholic” catechist who is teaching Protestant doctrines in a religious education class. That takes a Catholic with real courage and courageous Catholics is something the Church desperately needs right now.
Good to know…SSPX = non-courageous, and don’t evangelize. Remind me to stop talking to all the liberal Catholics I talk to, work with, go to school with, etc, because it’s not the sspx thing to do.

I’m with the other person who said…you have no idea what you’re talking about. The SSPX and the SSPV are two separate things…completely. While there are sedes who will attend SSPX Masses if they don’t have anything else, that doesn’t say anything about the SSPX. There are a lot of women on the pill who attend the Novus Ordo…That doesn’t reflect back on the Church. The SSPX does not, and cannot endorse the SSPV. How does truth endorse error??? The SSPX submits itself to the authority of the pope, something the SSPV doesn’t do.

I imagine that its difficult to get any direct account of the talks because the Vatican doesn’t want them in public until its over, and the SSPX probably doesn’t either. Its much easier for the two sides to talk honestly and earnestly without newspaper reports and blogs and Bishop Williamson complicating the matter. The talks will work much better in private.

And only a recent account for them to hold support for the Pope, why would the Pope stipulate it with them in the first place. So, very sorry your feathers are ruffled, and I’m speaking out in truth. Google up SSPX web sites, do your research, and see how many pop up that call themselves SSPX, yet are in reality, SSPV, many, and the SSPX tells us nothing about them, nor against them. I see the poor souls that claim to be clergy with SSPV being tossed around and manipulated by the evil one, and I for one will not tolerate it. So, yes I will speak up if this subject comes up to point out their error.

If you don’t like the truth, don’t listen, not going to keep quiet here, not now, not ever, so deal with it.

On top of this, who are these people that are defying the one holy and Catholic church, if we have a problem with how things are done we work within it, we dont’ just stomp our feet, form some new group and remain outside of the church. You are either for, or against it, there is no middle ground. I’d go without the sacrament of communion all together if I had no access to a proper Catholic church, that’s how strongly I feel about this.

The SSPV was formed by SSPX priests who broke off from the SSPX in 1988 specifically because the SSPX rejected sedevacantism which the SSPV embraced. Individual priests may have sympathies for both, but the two groups diverged over this issue.

Feel free to stop digging and climb out of your hole any time. Like I said, you don’t know what you’re talking about. If you did, you would realize that the SSPX has always recognized the authority of the pope (and to be 100% clear with regard to who I’m talking about, they include JPII and BXVI since the '88 episcopal consecrations). The pope would naturally stipulate allegiance to make sure that, from the outset, everybody is on the same page regarding who is the visible head of the Church, and the SSPX has been very vocal about not having any qualms about that…for over 20 years. If sedes want to take advantage of the SSPX name that’s their business. It doesn’t reflect back on the SSPX any more than “Catholics for Choice”, a non-Catholic entity, reflects back on the Catholic Church. The SSPX “tells us nothing about them” because the SSPX only speaks for itself, not for sedevacantists. The SSPX maintains their own website where you can read all about them. sspx.org.

Um…Ok. Great…I hope you have this much zeal with regard to the souls of all non-Catholics, including Jews, Muslims, Protestants, and everybody else. Thank you for pointing out the SSPV’s error…But keep in mind that this has absolutely nothing to do with the SSPX. I wish you would know and understand the difference between the two groups before posting your ignorance for everybody to see.
If you don’t like the truth, don’t listen, not going to keep quiet here, not now, not ever, so deal with it.
Actually, I love the truth…That’s why I’m a Catholic.

Ok, are you talking about the SSPX or the SSPV??? I assume you’re talking about the SSPV, because unlike them, the SSPX are clearly in the Church and nobody disputes that.
You are either for, or against it, there is no middle ground.
True enough. The SSPX is clearly for it.
I’d go without the sacrament of communion all together if I had no access to a proper Catholic church, that’s how strongly I feel about this.
Yeah, I can tell your feelings are playing a large role in all of this. Take care, and I hope you sort some things out.

You never did google up sspx sites have you, yet opt to spout off at me anyway. Do it and see what I see, otherwise, you are just playing the attack the person that doesn’t think like you game, which is another debate and thread all together.

I’m spouting off? Why, because you have no clue what the difference between the SSPX and the SSPV is and I’m letting you know what that difference is? Ok, I’ll spout off as needed. In the meantime, I’ve been googling “SSPX” and find nothing but sites by the SSPX and in favor of the SSPX, and sites that burn the SSPX…no big deal. But none of them link them to the SSPV. I also googled “SSPX sedevacantism” and find nothing but refutations of sedevacantism from the SSPX, its founder, its bishops, its priests, and the people who attend.

Just check the record: the SSPX has never been sede. You claimed that the SSPX still endorses “their split” the SSPV but you **cannot **back that up with anything. The SSPX has always been opposed to the sedevacantist theory.
