Are there any RLDS here?

Please, post links to mormon apologetists in this thread.

I don’t know about him; but I would like to have some general, up-to-date information about what is going on in the RLDS/CoC Church. I have heard a lot of rumours about schisms, breakaways, falling number, diminishing revenues, dismissing salaried staff for lack of funds, the liberal wing falling out with the conservative wing etc. I would like to hear from an official or informed source what the situation actually is.

I believe that they are experiencing a breakaway from Restorationists. The restorationists are attempting to set up churches that include the book of mormon. I believe that they also want to keep the name: The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

At least this is rumor that I heard.

That is right. All I hear are rumours. I would like somebody from the inside to tell me exactly what is going on out there.

I think that all their troubles began with the “name change”. The RLDS/CoC has always had a liberal wing and a traditional wing that have never quite seen eye to eye; but were still able to live in peace with each other. The “name change” seems to have changed all of that.

I blame mainly the liberal side for all their woes. The liberals basically don’t believe in anything—God or man or revelation or scripture or Bible or Book of Mormon or whatever. To them their religion is just a marriage of convenience. But they also want to impose their views on the rest; and since they were for the most part in the driving seat, they were able to impose their views. The “name change” seems to have been the last straw at which the traditionalists rebelled.

They also don’t like to talk about themselves—at least the leadership, or those connected with the officialdom don’t. I have tried to obtain correct information from them before, but they just don’t talk.

Go to the mormonapologetics site and ask Uncle Dale. He knows all about it, I believe. You can start a thread and I do believe that he will respond.
 
If you want to know what’s going on with the Restoration Branch Movement, your best bet would be to contact the Conference of Restoration Elders or Joint Conference of Restoration Branches. Even though each Branch is an independent church, and these Conferences don’t speak for the branches, they should be able to give you an idea what’s going on. You can also contact the Remant Church, which is a splinter off the Restoration Branch movement . Unlike the Restoration Branches, the Remnant has a church hierarchy that includes a centralized church leadership, a 'Prophet, and a first presidency.

One of these Restoration Branches is being sued by the Community of Christ because of trademark infringement. Apparently, some of the branches believe theye entitled to use ‘RLDS’ in their signs and literature 'cause they’re the ‘true successor’ to the RLDS church, even though the Community of Christ Church owns the rights to ‘RLDS’, ‘Reorganized Church…blah, blah, blah’, etc,

Thanks. The more I hear, the more conplicated the story seems to get! I wish somebody would write a true, unbiased history of the RLDS movement durine the past 20 years so I could go and read it, and get a good picture of the whole thing without too much hastle.

The ‘traditionalists’ rebelled long before that. It occured after Wallace B. Smith’s ‘revelation’ that women were to be ordained into the priesthood was ratified by the 1984 World Conference. Some members walked out at Conference, some left after their pastors were silenced and entire congregations were locked out of their churches because of criticism of this ‘revelation’.

There is probably more to the story than what I’ve mentioned , but this is about all I can remember from 17- 23 years ago… Besides, I had for all intents and purposes left the RLDS church by the time this happened. 🤷

There are several Mormon sects. The (formerly) RLDS and also the Temple Lot sect and I think there is also a group in Wisconsin, not to mention the underground polygamists.
