I have a questions of my own if I may. Does the Koran really say to subjegate the people of the book until they pay a tax? If so why? Or is that a hadith? I think hadiths were added later to clarify points in the Koran. Still humiliating people doesn’t strike me as something positve.

The ayah (it’s 9:29) if you want to look it up says to fight a certain group of people (by listing their crimes against Him) from amongst the people who were given scripture (i.e., so not all of them), until they are humbled and pay jizyah.

The hadith weren’t “added later” like other religions have things “added later.” The hadith are sayings of Muhammad in his own speech (very different than the Qur’an, which the speech of Allah). So both came at the same time. The Qur’an was revealed bit by bit, and Muhammad was teaching his followers Islam–sometimes reciting Qur’an to them, and sometimes in his own words. His own words are what became collectively called hadith.

The Hadiths are indeed much later and “additions”. The most famous Hadith collector was “Bukhari” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_al-Bukhari who lived and wrote 150-200 years after the revelation of the Quran.

This is why there is great flexibility and diverse opinions on Sharia and the implementation of Sharia.
