Question for Muslims

What exactly is the miracle of the Koran?
There are at least five verses (below) that challenge anyone to produce even one chapter superior to the Qur’an. Of course non-Muslims just dismiss that as nonsense, since who is going to be the judge? And, as I said in an earlier post, a lot of the Qur’an is repetitious, legalistic, and just plain silly (the verses about the guests not arriving early and leaving on time). So it seems to me to be fairly easy (if you knew Arabic that well!) to write something better than the verse about the guests, for example.

For the mathematical and/or scientific claims, just do a search on “Qur’an” and “miracles” and you’ll find tons of articles. I once taught at a scientific/engineering university in Saudi Arabia, and they actually taught that stuff to students. Scary.

Say: “If the mankind and the jinns were together to produce the like of this Qur’an, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another.” [Qur’an 17:88]

And if you (Arab pagans, Jews, and Christians) are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down (i.e. the Qur’an) to Our slave (Muhammad Peace be upon him ), then produce a surah (chapter) of the like thereof and call your witnesses (supporters and helpers) besides Allah, if you are truthful. [Qur’an 2:23]

Or they say, “He (Prophet Muhammad(P)) forged it (the Qur’an).” Say: “Bring you then ten forged surah (chapters) like unto it, and call whomsoever you can, other than Allah (to your help), if you speak the truth!” [Qur’an 11:13]

Or do they say: “He (Muhammad(P)) has forged it?” Say: “Bring then a surah (chapter) like unto it, and call upon whomsoever you can, besides Allah, if you are truthful!” [Qur’an 10:37-38]

Or do they say: “He (Muhammad(P)) has forged it (this Qur’an)?” Nay! They believe not! Let them then produce a recital like unto it (the Qur’an) if they are truthful. [Qur’an 52:33-34]

Thank you Arthra,

So then the night journey is in the Hadith not the Koran. If the Hadith stand on equal footing as the Koran then it could be relevant. Yet, if not it could be viewed as hear say.
I don’t think I meant to imply that “gmcbroom”… there is a Surih in the Qur’an entitled the Night Journey…

“Glory to (Allah) Who did take His servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless,- in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the One Who heareth and seeth (all things).”

What Muhammad Asad explained was that there is a saying of Aisha that explains the journey was not a physical one…but spiritual. You can find the reference in The Message of the Qur’an" Appendix IV “The Night Journey” p. 996.

Actually the appendix is online at
