Question for my Seventh-day Adventist brothers & sisters

My Seventh-day Adventist brothers & sisters, I hope that you will be able to clear something up for me.

Real-Life Situation:
**Elderly Couple - both nearly 80 yrs old, devout Seventh-day Adventists, very hard working, provide full-time care for their 3 mentally & physically disable grandchildren. **

**They have been living in their car in the cold for the last 2+ weeks. **

Yesterday I became aware of the situation, I immediately contacted a Catholic Church and the Catholic Church via the St. Vincent de Paul Society, supported soley by the donations dropped into the “poor box” at the back of the church, immediately went into action & the County has now removed the sign preventing them from living there since the required repairs have now been completed: new water heater installed, new carpet laid and new beds purchased. This elderly couple are now back living in their own home, they now have food & additional money for food, all their utilities are now paid for and they have presents for Christmas - thanks to the charity of the Catholic Church.

While I’m very proud that the Catholic Church offers such assistance to all people, regardless of their religious affiliation, I have to wonder why didn’t their own Seventh-day Adventist Church provide them with any of their basic needs or come to their rescue when this elderly couple became homeless?

I just don’t understand it. What futher confuses me is that in the theology of Seventh-day Adventist, as I see taught on television by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, teaches that the Roman Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon.

Please help me to understand how the Seventh-day Adventists are satisfied their church’s lack of charity to the extent that they won’t even help their own elderly/needy and secondly help me to understand why the largest charitable organization of the entire world, the Catholic Church, is considered to be the Whore of Babylon.

How do Seventh-day Adventists reconcile all this?

“…teaches that the Roman Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon.” Sad but true, I used to watch the Adventist network and one day I stumbled on a program about Daniel and the Little Horn. On and on and on about the Roman Catholic Church being the Whore of Babylon.

im gonna give our SDA friends the benifit of the doubt. and say, that maybe this couple were too proud to ask for assistance. there could be any number of answers. i think its wonderful the Catholic Church gave aid though. by their fruits ye may know them. 👍 this is one thing i have always loved about Catholicism, even before my conversion. how they put themselves out there, and actually serve the community in which they live. if your Catholic, and not doing something to serve, and are able bodied, there certainly is something wrong with that picture. no shortage of opportunities. i cannot wait till my time in the military is done, so i can go back to doing this near full time. Peace 🙂 i miss the service aspect

With that being said, I don’t really believe that the prophecy was literal in that regard, neither I believe that Angels of revelations would refer to a group of people. It never does anywhere in the Bible, yet we self-ascribe this job to ourselves while doing a very poor job of spreading the Gospel."

Benidict, I would say that the service you are doing right now is more than plenty. Thank you and God bless you for being willing to lay your life down for the rest of us. The parish to which you will return is fortunate indeed.

It’s quite possible that the elderly couple did not reach out to the church or their friends for help instead relying on faith and prayers.

And their prayers were answered by Catholics.

Methinks God is dropping hints here.

While it may be the case, let’s not forget that there are many Catholics who left the Church for exactly the same reason.

To the OP - there are many factors that might play a part in the elderly couples situation as it is that we do not know about. Most Protestant churches do look after their members quite well. Similarly the Catholic Church. I would not make any conclusion from that one incident though.
