I agree that many of the TV evangelist programs do ask a lot for money, especially Kenneth Copeland, et al. In general that is one thing I love about Catholicism is that the RCC tends to be more transparent and frugal. No lier jets necessary as tools of ministry on EWTN.
As for the word convert:
When you are talking to a protestant, the word “convert” means someone who has accepted Jesus as their Lord and saviour. They may come from all sorts of backgrounds; humanist, atheist, Muslim, etc. That is *they had no faith in Christ before *and now they do. So when you call someone who has believed in the Lord for 10 years a new convert it is seen as an insult to the protestant, because they say, “Hang on a sec, I already believe!” To a Catholic I am told it is an honour to be called a convert, but speaking to a protestant I would use “becoming Catholic” or something like that. Or entering the Church.
Same with the word “protestant.” Most people I know who use that word are Catholics. All that I have heard of the Reformation is from Catholics too. Most non-Catholic Christians I know do not refer to themselves as protestant, protest nothing against the RCC, but are simply Bible-believing Christians. They don’t accept Tradition or the Magesterium, but they probably don’t know that they are meant to either!
I am amazed when I said to people I was becoming Catholic and they said. “Why do you want to change religion?” My answer was, “I’m not changing religion, I am already a Christian”
