Oh no - see I am with you here. I think society ( thanks to sex therapy and Dr Ruth) has really upped the ante here by telling people that this activity is natural and OK. Now we have to undo the damage done and try to convince people this is a grave sin all over again.

I don’t think we had this problem 50 years ago because people 50 years ago seemed to be more God fearing. Now it’s all about pleasure and self.
This all goes back to my idea that hedonism is the single-greatest threat to the modern world. It promotes laziness, lust, selfishness and even self-worship. Unfortunately, “Why would the pursuit of pleasure be bad?” can be a very convincing message.

Maybe, but lets not forget that there are actually catholics that think sex is bad: all sex and sexuality. Lets also not forget the heresies: Jansenism, Albigensianism, and the famous puritinism.
Some single guys like me really struggle, and well at times fall into solitary sins is that the end of the world?

Talking about it, at least in general and refraining from graphical descriptions, stimulates my intellect. Besides the discussion all started with the Bible anyhow. If the Bible can address these things why should we fear to at least talk? It might save lives and that has to be a good thing.

I’m single, aged 21 and in my theard year of university studies. Two years till the diploma, how many till getting a job and something that could be called a house I don’t know. Essentially, this means staying single for a while.

I do read such threads or articles or whatever material so long as there is a purpose. It doesn’t make me fantasise, masturbate or anything. While watching porn is already wrong if you’re treating it as porn, there’s a piece of a road from even watching graphical porn to masturbating (I did the former in the past, never done the latter - I did sin in my mind, but it’s not like one’s hand has its own free will independent from the brain) - so how much does there have to be from reading textual material which is not even intended to stimulate sexual tension? It depends on the individual, I guess. If someone knows he will masturbate if he reads enough of neutral texts dealing with human sexuality, perhaps he should avoid reading those whenever possible.

As for there being any benefit in it: there’s always wisdom in human experience. Wisdom of the world, of course, but still wisdom. It makes people learn. Sometimes you might be able to help someone, as well.
